I work dayshift and have for over 4 yrs now on a surg floor. I have tried nights and at first loved then but after several months started to hating to go to work.I was ok once I got there and actually loved the people I worked with but it was almost like I was getting depressed. All I wanted to do is sleep all the time.So I went back to days. Now there is a flex position open and pays alot more money-15 more on the hour.I would also get more experience because I would be working all over the hospital. The problem is it is nights. Im scared that I will get like I was before-depressed...but for that much more money maybe I can get over it..lol. Any advice!!

You couldn't pay me enough money to go back to nights. N to the O ~ NO!

As someone who has worked nights for 9 out of the last 11 yrs I would say don't do it. It is too hard on the body. No amount of money is worth your health.

Not unless it was my only means of putting food on the table...otherwise no way! After only a few months on nights I developed high blood pressure, depression, bouts of tachycardia, and insomnia. Miraculously every one of these disappeared when I went back to days. I have all the respect in the world for those of you who can do it, though! It is not easy to live opposite the rest of the world.

Night owl here. Would leap at the chance to make $15/hr more. NOC diff where I am is a lousy $3.

But, if you already know nights doesn't agree with you, then it might be wiser to avoid this shift. JMHO

Wouldn't go back to nights for any amount of money unless my family was starving. Been there. Done that. Hated it.

I switched to nights for more pay.

There are day people and noc people, if it didn't work out for you in the past it won't now and the extra money won't make it any better. I work nocs and you couldn't pay me a differential to work dayshift!

I did nocs for 6 years and finnally my body gave out. I loved my co-workers and made more money- but i had to make a choice and i picked my health.

TOTALLY agree!!! I wish I could still do nights! I loved everything better about nights except the way my body starting turning on me in my "old" age!

15 more an hour? absolutely.

For fifteen more an hour, I would not only do it, I would like it. Since I am a night shift person, this would be right up my alley. And believe me, no one has ever offered me fifteen more an hour to work nights. Instead, they decrease my pay and some of them offer less for night shift and try to tell you that is because you don't do anything at night. Yeah, right. That is why the entire world is demanding night shift. Why would you need a bigger paycheck? If your need is great enough, you will find the enthusiasm to work that shift. Good luck.

I would seriously consider it for fifteen more an hour....

For that much more...when do you want me to start?;)

No, it would not be worth it to me. The thought of feeling constantly tired and out of touch with the rest of the world would keep me on days.
