Would you switch to nights for alot more money?

I work dayshift and have for over 4 yrs now on a surg floor. I have tried nights and at first loved then but after several months started to hating to go to work.I was ok once I got there and actually loved the people I worked with but it was almost like I was getting depressed. All I wanted to do is sleep all the time.So I went back to days. Now there is a flex position open and pays alot more money-15 more on the hour.I would also get more experience because I would be working all over the hospital.The problem is it is nights. Im scared that I will get like I was before-depressed...but for that much more money maybe I can get over it..lol. Any advice!!

Sleep and a normal life are more important than the extra dollars. I also like working with patients when they are most likely awake. Easier to get a hold of doctors too.

there is not enough money in the world that would make me go back to nights. been there and done that ! hated it. always sleepy, always tired and always sick. stay on days !

Nope. Not a night person. I think you either are or your aren't. Sounds like you may already know which one you are.

If you already know you are not a night person then don't do it. However, nights agree with some people and I am sure one of the night owls would jump at it.

If you already did it and hated it then 2nd go around? I did nocs for 6 years and finnally my body gave out. I loved my co-workers and made more money- but i had to make a choice and i picked my health.

If you know you cannot handle nights well, then I wouldn't do it. You may feel some regret, but if you know that you will be a zombie in your off hours if you take the job, you'll regret losing your day job very much, regardless of money.

That is a lot of extra money for the night shift. Is there a reason for that? I mean, is it that unpleasant to work there at night that they have to pay that much more?

It is a flex position correct? So to me that means you won't be on nights exclusively, therefore I think the chance for night time burnout might be a little less.

I work nights and have run into periods of depression as well, but with a little schedule rearranging, aka all my nights in a row, I find it quickly fades away.

However if my days get broken up a lot I tend to be much crankier than normal.

However, I wouldn't trade a month of one on one off for anything to do with days in my hospital.

$15 is a lot of money. If you have the capacities I would say a year or two of that much extra cash might be very beneficial.
