Hello
I am a new RN that passed NCLEX. I am writing to maybe vent or maybe get some advice who knows. Anyways I just found out I cannot be a graduate nurse (you know start working) right now rather I have to wait 2 entire months. At this point I am exhausted and completely burned out. I haven't made any money for 2 stinking years and i literally don't have food to eat. I need a job and I need one now. I come from an extremely dysfunctional family and I am the only person to not only graduate but become a nurse. I even did extremely well in nursing school. The thing is I am at an extremely low point in my life...yes I did pass my nclex in 75 questions under one hour and all that crap but i NEED to eat and pay my rent. At this point I have a friend that is an escort and she advised me to do what she does so I can afford to buy food and pay my rent this month. I never thought I would end up doing such a thing but I am desperate. I have cried all night knowing I will be getting paid for sex but there is nothing i can do. There is no other job in the world that will pay be so much money on the spot. I have no friends that are nurses nor do I feel comfortable reaching out to the nurses I do know. I wish I could do anything but escort but I have no clue as to what and my rent is coming up.
Anyways I hope you guys have a great christmas...
If this is even for real...
DO NOT do this! God forbid you get caught/arrested, your career is over before it starts. Talk to your landlord, food banks, contact your township/county trustee for assistance. It's the holidays - I'm sure you could work retail short term. Work at McDonalds. Unemployment is so low, everyone is hiring. There are so many alternatives to this crack-pot idea.
I am guessing your Nurse residency program probably has a few different start times and yours starts in two months. Take a look around... it is December... there are lots of seasonal jobs. It may not be the days or shifts you want, but that is better than nothing. If you get caught or anyone catches on to what your doing, your license is toast. Someone could report you to the BON for moral turpetitude.. Don't lose your license before you start working
There are plenty of jobs out there -- especially now due to the holiday season. They may not be the jobs you want to do for the rest of your life (like nursing), but isn't that the point? You just need something now. Go out there and look. Go to a temp agency and put in your resume. Many times temp agencies have a job that may last 1-3 months just filling in for somebody who is on a temporary medical leave. Just look around.
You made it two years. You can make it two months. Wait tables. Work retail. Drive for Uber. Wrap gifts. Babysit. Walk dogs. Use community resources. Contact your church. Visit the local food bank. I would suck up needing a handout before I would tolerate what selling my body will do to my soul. The idea that you have no choice but prostitution is absolutely ridiculous. It's two months. Hunker down, use those smarts that got you through school and get through it.
I am not a troll... I literally just got my license. I will be honest going through nursing school and studying my ass off has burned me out. In fact I took the nclex without even caring. I just said sat there and said well if i don't pass i am done with this XXXX. Alot of you are snobby but will be shocked at how many escorts i knew are in fact nurses now. I have never done it myself but i know people that do... I dont look down on them. I was simply venting... I may or may not do it but after spending 2 freaking years learning as much as possible even topics i know i will never want to know i am broke while my friends who are escorts have freaking homes fully paid for and brand new cars. Sometimes I get mad because I decided to help people but now here i am broke and hungry. Yes my graduate nurse program starts in 2 months but i cant wait that long. I hear some people have jobs already but I don't know what that means. Can a graduate nurse work somewhere else like a nursing home while they wait? Every other job i search for wants an experienced nurse. I refuse to be a tech like how the hell am i working backwards. I just want to learn to use my skills and do what i have always wanted to do. . like i said I am NEW to the field. My parents never even finished high school so I cannot ask them for advise.

I don't know; a nurse-hooker with a heart of gold? I'm seeing a Julia Roberts/Richard Gere reunion movie in our future...
