I dont agree with the ANA's political agendas

They don't represent my level of nursing

I belong to specialty nursing organization and thats enough

I am curious - if you are not a member of the ANA, why not?

Don't forget the Poll at the top!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

In IL, dues are $536/year - yikes...simply can't afford it and never looked further.

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

Its a couple hundred - 400 or so? for the ANA and TNA here in Texas too.

Ludicrous really.

Do the math - even if it was $200 a year...

100,000 x $200 = 20,000,000 per year in membership fees

1,000,000 x $40 = 40,000,000 per year in membership fees

Now, maybe it's just me, but Im thinking there are at LEAST a million nurses in the US. Im thinking 40 mil would pay for twice as many lobbyists as 20 mil, just me....of course that assumes you'd have an organization nurses would want to join.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.
of course that assumes you'd have an organization nurses would want to join.

If that organization doesn't deliberately leave out nurses.

The one and only time I've ever heard from the Texas Nurses' Assoc was when they sent me a solicitation in the mail for me to apply for a Visa credit card with their logo on it.

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

Im talking ALL nurses - LPN/LVN, ADN/RN, BS/RN, MS, whatever it is you are as long as it includes nurse in some legal capacity.

Don't forget us poor little diploma RNs. Goodness knows the ANA has.

:yeahthat:

I think they spin their wheels accomplishing nothing.

Ain't that the truth! Even here, hardly anyone mentions diploma nurses. Some of us actually turned out quite well, thank you very much.

Specializes in ER/Trauma.

Good point.

I'm a BSN but doubt I'll ever join. I also think they don't advocate enough for nurses and some of the stuff they've put out is completely stupid.

Specializes in PACU, PICU, ICU, Peds, Education.

Not a member because of their position statement on "reproductive rights."

Good point.

Will never become a member because they are weak, ineffective, and completely out of touch with the average nurse in this country. I sometimes wonder who exactly they think they are supposed to represent. It is certainly not the bedside nurse. I applauded the California Nurses Association when they withdrew from the ANA. I think that if all of the state nurses associations did that then they might finally realize that they have had their heads up their butts for too long, and maybe they should listen to the bedside nurse for a change.
