Why did/are you getting your BSN?

Published

I have been playing with the idea of returning to school to get my BSN (see my other post about feeling bored on the job) because I love school and may someday wish to go to grad school. However, if I don't go to grad school. . .I'm wondering why I would spend the $$ and time on the degree. My hospital doesn't care if I have a BSN. Would I learn interesting things or just the same old theories/care plans?

I'm starting my BSN hopefully this spring... *fingers crossed*

I have a BS in another subject, and I went back for ADN because it was fast and cheap. I keep hearing mumblings about BSN in 10 and I feel as though a BSN would be advantageous to have if I decide to get my Master's or go into management or something like that.

Personally though? I am souped to take pathophysiology. I love taking classes, I like reading and studying, and after 8 years of college, I'm finally good at synthesizing course materials and practical knowledge. And test taking. :)

I'll finish my ADN in December hopefully and I plan to go through to WGU RN to BSN program and try to start in April. WGU is pretty cheap but awards the same accredited BSN degree as more expensive schools. At first I wasn't in favor of getting a BSN but I've noticed a tangible push in my area for preference for BSN. So I want to go ahead and get my BSN while my job is willing to pay for it. Why not if the school is paid for?

I am starting a RN-BSN program this fall. I always sort of had it at the back of my mind. Now is the best time for me because my hospital gives GREAT tuition reimbursement and is assoc with a top ten university. I am really looking forward to that University of XXXX degree on the wall :D

Also, more and more hospitals are requiring BSN degrees for nurses. Magnet hospitals especially. If I leave this place someday, it will make it MUCH easier to get another job with a BSN. Good luck.

Starting my RN to BSN in August. My previous BA doesn't count for diddly squat in nursing, so my BSN is a stepping stone towards my MSN/DNP (whatever's required at that time).

Specializes in Pedi.

I got mine because I went to a 4 year college straight out of high school. I never considered not going to a traditional college and I knew I wanted nursing so I entered directly into the program my 1st year.

I did it purely to buff my resume.

It's the next step in my career plans. I'm still not exactly sure where my final career destination is, but I know what I'm going to need a BSN to get there.

That and a lot of facilities won't give you the time of day without those three letters after your name.

to keep a my job or to be able to get a new one since most hospitals are requiring it

Like many of you, I belong to a Magnet Hospital and of course now they want all nurses to have a BSN. Thankfully, I have been enrolled in an online program that my Univ. hospital has a great hookup with ,and I am about three classes away from finishing. This is my elation. I have not learned anything other that APA format and this is an online school that is well known. The sad thing is, my online school is so big until , out of my department alone there is about 20 plus nurses taking the same classes at the same time and never do we meet in class. That means at the least 20 plus instructors from all over .In addition, I know nurses in other online schools that are saying the samething.Don't look now ,the BSNs here are going for there MSNs ,MSNs are going for another Master's, etc. because it is so easy.Heck, I go online from my Android phone . For those, that say they do not want to be at the bedside with a BSN is a joke with this sort of effortless curriculum. Can u say -MSN Plus ,plus ,plus ? Just to be a manager. Beyond that , it is pushed easily by agendas of these Universities for -What else ? Money ! Who writes the papers ,research, etc. to falsely back it ? Get a few nurses with letters after their names i.e. Susy NewGrad, BSN,MSN, Phd,CEN,CCRN,TNS, ABBBBCCCDDFFFGGHHTHHSUSUSUYY (Wonder how much this letters cost total ?) Susy could easily promote pro-ADN works of art on MSWORD. At this rate, I will without any effort need two name tags just to hold my letters to come. Wish it could be just MD-works for them. But then again tuition for them is about $180k to $220k and believe me these schools want us to spend that too.

Please. Try to focus and articulate what you're trying the say in the above gibberish. Is your online school accepting this level of writing as acceptable. You should ask for your money back. Yes, we definitely need less online education. I think that's one of the threads in your post. They are so often a ****-poor substitute for an education and charge WAY to much money.

i did it because i already had other undergraduate degrees in other fields and it was faster plus made more sense to do the bachelor's program for that reason.

if i could be 18 again...i would have gone to lpn school then got my ADN and i don't know if i would've gone on for a BSN.

i was telling a LPN not long ago that i would've gone to lpn school from jump street if i had a re-do and her response was, "i would've gone straight through for my bsn if i had a re-do."

the grass is always greener....

The Gibberish gets straight A's with paid for help that written so,so, eloquently -MSN here I come ! Universities all over have jumped on the band wagon -just pick one. Isn't it great !
