Why did/are you getting your BSN?

Published

I have been playing with the idea of returning to school to get my BSN (see my other post about feeling bored on the job) because I love school and may someday wish to go to grad school. However, if I don't go to grad school. . .I'm wondering why I would spend the $$ and time on the degree. My hospital doesn't care if I have a BSN. Would I learn interesting things or just the same old theories/care plans?

Why I am getting BSN?

1. I don't have a job and doing nothing is driving me crazy. (I am a new grad.)

2. Every where wants BSN.

3. I don't plan to be at bed side forever.

4. I haven't have any BS in anything. Ha Ha Ha.

as several of you previously posted, i as well worked myself up the ladder in the nursing world, i began as a na, cna, lpn, rn, bsn, msn. at this level, i made a choice every time to continue my education not for any facility nor a future premonition, just because i thoroughly enjoyed nursing school yes i'm one of those 1224_researching_smiley_finding_an_.gif, i love a challenge and several times during my career i heard "you wouldn't like that" or "i don't think that's for you" needless to say, that's when i excel and prove to myself that i can do anything i set my mind to. therefore, any of you out there contemplating furthering your education don't hesitate go for it, if you can...wishing all of you the best always.....aloha~

I'm doing my BSN because my nursing passion doesn't lie with LTC or the rehab facility I'm at now. I like my job and my patients but it's not where I'd like to be at forever.

I've always wanted to be a nurse and always wanted the "college experience" right after high school, so I attended a four year university for my degree. It worked out well.

hunny i hear your pain school is a full time full time job, and very difficult to get through. but it's so important. so consider going to graduate school... education is the key to life...

I just graduated w/ADN, will probably start BSN in Jan. I am a school-aholic (it will be degree #5) but where I live, the nicer places to work are trending toward magnet status and you have to have a BSN. Just keeping my options open.

I consider BSN a necessary, expensive evil. I had to agree to get it just to a get a LTC job and now that I've transfered to a hospital within the system, I really had to promise to get it. Ugh.

I also might want to be an NP so I really would have to get it, but it's annoying to me right now.

I just like being an educated person. Life is so much easier when you can see the bigger picture, get the social trends and make more money in less hours!

I got a BSN because, with a previous BS degree, it would have been rather stupid to not go for it. Most of my pre-reqs from my other degree transferred (the English, Government, humanities, etc. stuff), so it only worked out to be about one semester longer than getting a ADN.

Hi, I just started my BSN program 2weeks ago. just got my RN 3months ago. i live in philly and in order to get a good job, i think a BSN is required. i thought getting my RN would open so many doors. HA! it seems like as soon as i got my RN, a BSN was what you needed. it will be just my luck that when i graduate in may, the MSN will be preferred. cant get a break.

I'm starting the research process to complete a BSN. Do I want to? Not really. But my prior bachelor's isn't recognized by anyone (not that I expect it to be recognized in a professional capacity, but I expect some recognition for the effort that it took, ya know?). I also someday want to be an APN, so it's a necessary thing to complete if I want to go through a legit APN program.

I have a BA in communications already and was told by the CNE that it would probably be an acceptable alternative to getting another bachelors - plus with another Bachelors I can do a direct entry MSN program...
