Who's still waiting on "THE LETTER"

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay, it's getting down to crunch time!!! I am starting to *think* plan B. I still have to wait until the first part of May before I get any news. If I don't get in, I will need to bust my rear to get more pre req's in this summer for another program starting in Jan'07...

Who else is still waiting for fall 06...and do you have a plan B????

Good luck my fellow future nurses;)

you are so right!! I applied with a 4.0 and made the waiting list because others got a little higher score on Hesi!! hoping i get in at the other school so I dont have to wait. Yep i dont think many of the RNs today would have gotten in if they had to go thru this!! I am a NA at the hospital and from talking to the Rns the older ones cant get over the hoops we go thru to get into a program. good luck to us all!!

The school I am applying to accepts 120 (getting usually 600 applications a year). The deadline for applications is April 1st. I turned in my application today. They said to put down 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices of health programs. They go by a points system (half from ACT, half from GPA). They don't even enter the information till after the end of the semester in May. Then they will send out letters to the top points. It is going to be a long wait. I am meeting with my advisor tomorrow and gonna ask when should I worry if I haven't gotten a letter. I have the most points you can get for my GPA but only half the points for the ACT. I took it over 15 years ago and I am afraid I can't do any better now. I have one more chance to take the ACT again to get a better score before they enter the points. Do you think I should try and see if I can get better?

God Bless,

ok...a couple of comments about your evil nursing programs:

i took the net in oct and that was the last thing i needed to complete so the wait was long. however i got my letter today! i am in the rn program beginning jan 07.

congrats :balloons: - but getting in over a year from taking your net is [evil]seriously evil[/evil] are they trying to give you a nervous breakdown?

the program is supposed to start may 15, and i still don't know. the wait is so agonizing... and the disappointment when i see no letter in the mail is so huge. :uhoh3:

may 15th is when you start- that is hardly any notice at all. [evil]seriously evil.[/evil] i know what you mean about the disappointment of nothing in the mail. i try to force myself to wait until the end of the day to check because it really bumbs me out.

good luck everyone!

even though i have been accepted at one campus, i am waiting to hear from another. it is a little closer to me. letters are supposed to be received by may 26th according to their nursing packet. the deadline was 3/8 so i don't understand why it takes so flipping long to make decisions!! i have orientation tomorrow for the other campus so that is exciting and the only thing that hasn't had me 'losing it' over waiting for this other letter.

i can tell you that no matter how long the wait, when that letter finally arrives in the mail - it is a huge relief, not even knowing the answer, simply seeing the envelope in the mail. then when the answer is you have been accepted - it is sweet!!!!!!!

good luck to all waiting!!!

Is there time for you to take the ACT again before applications are due?

I would definitely re-take it if you have time or if you don't get into nursing school this time around.

I sat for the ACT the first time in my life last Fall at the age of 43. I hadn't taken a math class in over 25 years, but I prepared and reviewed and basically re-taught myself algebra and geometry. I got a 31 on the ACT. Not bad for an old gal if I say so myself.

I can recommend some books that helped me if you want to know about them.

I signed up to take it again on Tuesday, so I will only have a week to prepare. I would appreciate all the advice you can give me.

Mary Ann

unc is pulling the same stunt with its applicants. their program starts may 22 or something similar and they're not sending out notifications until after april 15th (per the department head)....i was sooo glad i got somewhere else in february so i didn't have to go through this. this is just one reason why i don't care for unc...i think that's pretty presumptious of them - what if you live in asheville, which is practically in tennessee, and you have to get an apartment/living space in chapel hill in april? i know unc gets a lot of apps, but please....

to the unc applicants still waiting - god bless you. i can't imagine how horrible the wait is. mine was bad enough - and it was literally nothing compared to what you all are dealing with!!

The program I applied to only takes 84 students out of about 300 applicants. We took the NLN on March 7th and I just rec'd my scores in the mail last week. The acceptance process is on a point system with the NLN score + the grades you rec'd from your required pre-req's. Your % score has to be higher than 50 just to be considered. I have spoken to a few people that have been accepted with lower scores than mine, so I'm hoping that's a good thing. We have to have completed A&PI and II and Micro before entering the program. I have not completed A&PII which means I'll be taking that in the summer :uhoh3:

It all sounds very confusing to me. They wont be sending out our letters until the middle of April :o . Waiting is hell. I have no Plan B and this is the only local ADN program. Fingers are crossed.

I just saw on my school's website that registration starts April 11th. That means they HAVE to send out the letters soon, right?

Maybe it is just wishful thinking :)
