I know I"m not the only one.

I have one son, who will be two in June, I start in August. I can't believe he'll be almost four when I'm done!

Therein lies my dilemma. I am looking for others who have been in a similar situation. We've been told there is 'x' amount of hrs that you can miss of clinical time; not that I am trying to push the limit. However, initial impression is I should just find someone to drop my kid of with. Being a military family makes this whole situation a bit of pain...

3 kids 7, 9 and 11 and i start clinicals in ththe fall

I went through nursing school as a single mother of son exactly your son's age. I had no family in town although they were a few hours away. It was tough and there were some days where I felt I would not be able to scrape myself up off the floor, but I did it and graduated with honors. You can to!! You just put one foot in front of the other and take things one day at a time! I look back now and treasure all my memories of the whole experience! :)

I will start school in August and have 4 children, ages 13, 12, 10 and 8. My husband is also in school, he goes after work, so I am in school from 8-5 (on clinical days it will be 5:30a-5:50p) and he goes from 5:30-about 10. Our poor children only have parents during the summers!!! Hopefully they will see how hard we are working and studying and it will rub off on them!!!

Is it possible to find a daycare that stays open later? (I know it's easier said than done). When I was all alone in GA, I found a daycare that was at the lady's house and it was pretty much 24 hours. I felt like she would give my child more personal attention and if I was going to be late, I could just call and say that I would be late. That might be an option you want to look into. Or, a nanny that comes to your house. It might sound expensive but with the price of daycare, I think it'll be along the same lines. just something to think about. I wouldn't really count on leaving clinicals early (especially when your instructor would like you to start giving report to the 7p nurse)

The daycare she goes to know is one of the few in the area that I actually feel comfortable with. It looks as if the only other option would be to find another a home operated daycare that would be willing to take her on clinical days.

I would HIGHLY recommend finding a home daycare or stay at home mom who can take her. You don't want to plan on missing any time. Time may be missed but you want to go in having it all covered.

In my school there was a girl late for the first clinical of the semester. She was warned that this would be a freebie. She was late the next day. She was put on action plan. The next Saturday she didn't show...we figure she was late and knew she was getting kicked out.

There are people who have missed time and they make it up. I would be fearful of missing more then 1 day.

I have a 3yr old and gave birth in April. I'm on my 3rd semester, one semester left till graduation. I suggest a very good support system. I'm lucky to have inlaws around to help with the kids while I'm in school. It's doable. Good luck!

I will start August 27th, my son is 9 and will be in 4th grade

I'm starting nursing school as a single parent by circumstance (wife is deployed to Iraq). I have a 2 year old daughter, parents are out of the state, we're actually new to the state of VA, and the local daycare centers that provide quality care are slim pickings. The one that we were lucky enough to find stays open until 6p

I start this August and am terrified of the potential for evening

(11a-7p) clinicals. Have any of you missed clinical time as result of having children? If so, was it on a regular basis and how was it handled/viewed by the staff?

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. The anxiety over this is really eating me up.

Ooooh, I sooooo hear you!!!!! I am in the same boat. We are military and my husband is stationed elsewhere. we have zero family around. Have you considered hiring a nanny to come to your house to take care of your child. THere is a nanny service in our area and I would have utilized it because they also offer part time/latchkey nannys that live outside the home. Luckily after lots of searching and going crazy, I found a lady in my neighborhood that will keep my son after hours (she picks him up from school and keeps him after she closes her daycare at 6:00) My clinicals are from 1:00p.m. to 7:45 p.m. twice a week. My son is also a Cubscout and would have to miss the Wednesday meetings but luckily the den leader will pick him up from the daycare and take him to the meetings so he won't have to quit scouts.

Nothing ever gave me a bigger headache and heartache than to be accepted to nursing school and having to deal with the difficult task of finding care for my son. All after school daycare programs around here close at 6:00-6:30 p.m. WE cannot miss clinicals or we will get a zero for that day and we were told that missing could throw us from being a A student right down to C or worse :uhoh3: The stress over daycare will probably kill me before any of the grueling classes will!

Good luck and give a nanny service a try if everything else fails.

Best of luck to all of you seeking childcare. I will be starting nursing school with a six-year old and I'm so worried about studying time and having time for her.I will have my husband, mother, and grandmother nearby for support... Thank goodness!!....... We have to do what we have to do, huh?
