Who Watches ER?

I love medical dramas, even though I hate how they potray nurses...if at all. On Grey's Anatomy, they rarely show nurses, on House, I swear the docs do everything from lab work to radiology, and if you see a nurse, they are in the background like wallpaper. It is very frustrating....and yes, I know that topic has been brought up a lot. But I wanted to comment how impressed I usually am with the show ER. They have nurse main characters, they are smart and great at their jobs. I think they do a good job of showing how hard a nurse really works. And last night was really cool. If you don't watch the show, the main nurse is studying for her CRNA exam. I am sure they are taking some liberties with it, but they show her studying, and even explaining what a CRNA really is to a new intern doctor. So I just wanted to show some kudos to a show that is helping the image of a nurse:up: They probably don't even show half of what the nurses do, but it is a start. Was curious to the people who watch the show, what they thought of their potrayals of nurse. Especially this new storyline...is it even accurate how they show her going to CRNA school? Don't you need ICU experience, or can you go with ER experience? Since I am not a nurse, I would like to know what other hospital nurses think.

I do not watch fictional prime time TV dramas about hospitals and medicine.

To get my kicks, I watch the real thing: the Discovery Health Channel. The multitude of real life documentaries, series, and shows typically portray nurses in a positive and truthful light.

i am watching it right now. i rarely get a chance to watch it because i work days but i do want to get the dvd's for past shows that i have missed.

I was happy they touched on the fact that CRNA do not work under an MD license and show her striving for higher education. Although it was only a 10 second blurb. When it was over I thought, was that IT!!!

Btw LOVE Ray was back on :) I love his character

The Show ER is absolutely real. NOthing fake about it. Sexy people sexing each other in-between saving lives... helicopter crashes outside the door...surgery in the ED...etc. :icon_roll

All teasing aside, The best thing about the show is that it goes far in recruiting nurses to the ED. Lay-people and students get distorted ED-views/opinions...and many are drawn to EDs based on this distortion (7 out of ten students will say 'i want to work ED'...most of the rest want to work with babies/children) ... but thats OK...EDs need the staff.

ER is one of my guilty pleasures :)

I just can't bring myself to watch those hospital dramas. I work in a hospital, I certainly don't want to spend my free time watching about one. The only exception is House, because well, he's House. I also like the medical mystery aspect, but well, he's House. I also don't watch reality tv. Life is real. If I want to escape I go for the fantasy/sci fi stuff.

Not allowed in my house.

Years ago, during my wife's residency, we tried watching it. I was kind of entertained. My wife would practically spit..."that can't happen like that"...."they can't do that"....."yeah, right, like we'd ever have time or they'd ever let us do that"....:icon_roll

No more.

"You don't need a damn mnemonic to secure an airway." :yeah:

I've watched it since it's first season, and am pretty sad that it's ending. I mean, there were some seasons that I didn't watch when they seemed to lose their focus..but still...it was always there. I think that "Love's Labor Lost" (waaayyy back in the day) was one of the Top 10 episodes of television ever. The portrayal of nurses Has suffered since Carol Hathaway left, IMO...but they've picked it up again with Sam. Yeah, it's got it's unrealistic moments...but it's TV and not real life. I've enjoyed it, and I hate to lose an old friend. :(

I've watched it since the beginning and love it.

I don't care if it is unrealistic at times . . . it is not a documentary, it is entertainment.

No show on tv about lawyers, police officers, HOUSEWIVES:icon_roll, "Brothers and Sisters", "Life on Mars" (a cop hits his head and goes back in time to the 1970's), etc., tells a completely realistic story. It isn't worth getting your knickers in a twist over a tv show.

It was good to see Ray again . .. and I do like Sam's character now.

I will be sad when ER ends.

I love ER. I am still simply devastated that Pratt died; it was so horrible how it happened, and he was one of my favorite characters. I do believe that they more accurately portray nursing in the real sense, but I wish that they would enhance the characters of some of the minor nurses such as the one that lost all of the weight (and since put alot back on) and the male LPN.

This last season is going to be interesting, because they are bringing back Dr. Greene...I am sure this will be some sort of a dream or something, but, he was another fav of mine. I will miss them when they finally cut out. Outside of some of the hokey scenes where they show the doctors taking out more time than they usually do with the patients, it looks realistic to me. I work in an inner city hospital as well, and it is not unusual to see fist fights happening in the middle of treatment-believe me.

yea i hate pratt was killed to. the show killed off a lot of Doc's. Greene was one of my favorites too. remember the one killed by the helicopter? and there was another Doc killed off as well in some type of robbery i think. i def. need to get the dvd's becuz i missed a lot.
