I love medical dramas, even though I hate how they potray nurses...if at all. On Grey's Anatomy, they rarely show nurses, on House, I swear the docs do everything from lab work to radiology, and if you see a nurse, they are in the background like wallpaper. It is very frustrating....and yes, I know that topic has been brought up a lot. But I wanted to comment how impressed I usually am with the show ER. They have nurse main characters, they are smart and great at their jobs. I think they do a good job of showing how hard a nurse really works. And last night was really cool. If you don't watch the show, the main nurse is studying for her CRNA exam. I am sure they are taking some liberties with it, but they show her studying, and even explaining what a CRNA really is to a new intern doctor. So I just wanted to show some kudos to a show that is helping the image of a nurse:up: They probably don't even show half of what the nurses do, but it is a start. Was curious to the people who watch the show, what they thought of their potrayals of nurse. Especially this new storyline...is it even accurate how they show her going to CRNA school? Don't you need ICU experience, or can you go with ER experience? Since I am not a nurse, I would like to know what other hospital nurses think.
Oh, I am so Happy that you are all confessing your ER love! I have been a fan since it started and have cried every time a character left for some reason or another, but especially when they died... I could not believe Pratt died this season and cried the whole episode.
I am an ER nurse because of this show, I confess. And, it is because of the chaos that I love the ED. I love the crazy patients, love the ETOH's and the traumas... well, what can I say, fascinating and I can't get enough of it. GSW anyone? That's my kind of night!
Now, I'm watching the old episodes that I saw as a "lay person" and I always find fun new aspects of the story that non-medical people totally miss. It's like a show hidden in the main show.
The only season that I kind of skipped was when Carter brought back the girlfriend from his trips to Africa. She was so annoying! I really couldn't watch those episodes, so I missed Dr. Weaver's drama with the child custody thing... Oh, well, you see I love this thing.
Keep watching ER and enjoy!
I'll be very sad when it ends and plan to buy the entire dvd set when it comes out so I can indulge in my guilty pleasure from time to time.
I am only 22, and I have actually watched ER from the very beginning!! It is what actually got me interested in becoming a nurse. I did med-surg nursing for 2 years, and now I'm an ER nurse. I still love the show, I know that not all of it is real, but that is why it's a tv show!! But I believe it's by far the only show that actually talks about the nurses and shows them working their asses off. I love grey's anatomy and House but they don't show or even really talk about the nurses. It just ****** me off. Doctors would not survive without nurses. We all know it!!! But I stil love ER. It's sad that it's actually going to be ending!!!! I can't even believe it, I've spent over half of my life time watching this show and now it's all coming to an end. But I've already started my ER collection of dvd's, I have all of the available ones! So I can always enjoy my ER marathons! :-) Glad I'm not the only one who loves ER!
Not allowed in my house.Years ago, during my wife's residency, we tried watching it. I was kind of entertained. My wife would practically spit..."that can't happen like that"...."they can't do that"....."yeah, right, like we'd ever have time or they'd ever let us do that"....:icon_roll
No more.
I find myself doing that ALL the time when watching shows like ER, House or Grey's Anatomy. MY SO finds it very annoying hehe

The same for my husband...he sees either ER or whatever medical drama or my medical documentaries on Discovery Channel, etc and says "Oh, God...picking poor people apart again...". Hey, he just doesn't understand!
I don't pick the medical aspects apart - I just watch the show.
However, I do have to say that Grey's Anatomy is bugging me - the storyline about the details of sexual gratification for Callie and Erica . . . . . . . .and Callie having lessons on that sexual act from Mark, having sex with Erica, then having sex with Mark again . . . .all at work.
That bugged me.

Watching ER way back when was what made me decide to go back to school. I stopped watching after George Clooney left.
Grey's is beyond stupid, but I still record it and watch it. I agree with Spidey's Mom about it too.
Also,
How about when Meredith drowned and Derek was the one who found her and carried her back to the ambulance and saved her life?

I used to watch ER years ago and enjoyed it then.
These days I don't watch any TV except for about 10min a day of morning news and weather.
There is no need to watch the drama if you live the drama.
