I love medical dramas, even though I hate how they potray nurses...if at all. On Grey's Anatomy, they rarely show nurses, on House, I swear the docs do everything from lab work to radiology, and if you see a nurse, they are in the background like wallpaper. It is very frustrating....and yes, I know that topic has been brought up a lot. But I wanted to comment how impressed I usually am with the show ER. They have nurse main characters, they are smart and great at their jobs. I think they do a good job of showing how hard a nurse really works. And last night was really cool. If you don't watch the show, the main nurse is studying for her CRNA exam. I am sure they are taking some liberties with it, but they show her studying, and even explaining what a CRNA really is to a new intern doctor. So I just wanted to show some kudos to a show that is helping the image of a nurse:up: They probably don't even show half of what the nurses do, but it is a start. Was curious to the people who watch the show, what they thought of their potrayals of nurse. Especially this new storyline...is it even accurate how they show her going to CRNA school? Don't you need ICU experience, or can you go with ER experience? Since I am not a nurse, I would like to know what other hospital nurses think.
The Show ER is absolutely real. NOthing fake about it. Sexy people sexing each other in-between saving lives... helicopter crashes outside the door...surgery in the ED...etc. :icon_rollAll teasing aside, The best thing about the show is that it goes far in recruiting nurses to the ED. Lay-people and students get distorted ED-views/opinions...and many are drawn to EDs based on this distortion (7 out of ten students will say 'i want to work ED'...most of the rest want to work with babies/children) ... but thats OK...EDs need the staff.
Seriously? People want to become ER nurses after watching this show? I think ER nurses are awesome, and I love trauma, but this show makes me not want to work in an ER....too crazy....LOL
I have pretty much watched ER since the beginng. I haven't seen last nights had to work. I did tape it. I cried like a baby when pratt died. I always seem to cry at tv shows. But am profesional at my job. I love all the medical shows. House,Greys and Private Practice its my guilty pleasure
i have been an er fan since the begining 14 years ago. i have always loved that it was a nurse doctor show. i loved carol hathaway. she was a real nurse with real problems like sam.
i also watch and enjoy house. it does however irk me that the doctors to everything from toileting to lab draws. when they do include a nurse it is usually to yell at her about how incompetent she is or how she needs to get her butt in the room.
i would love to be on the end to develop a dramatic show that focuses on nurses :nurse:and doctors are in the background.:nuke:
I have to admit, I liked last nights episode of E.R.
I don't know why I like House so much. The formula is always the same:
1. Random person doing something... boom syncope!
2. Can't figure out what is wrong with pt
3. House belittles people
4. Produce theory and give meds
5. Theory is wrong so meds cause pt to code
6. After tons of degradation House figures out what is wrong at last minute
7. Pt saved and loves house even though he hates them :bowingpur
Same pattern, but it's so appealing.

carl hathaway was my favorite character on er!
i hate house.
I like ER. I watch grey's anatomy also, but lately that show has been making me upset. They portray the docs as the ones who do everything for the patient. Last time I watched Dr. Yang went into the room to give a patient PO meds (yeah right) and they show them starting IV's all the time. I have only seen a resident attempt to start an IV once and that was when the rest of us couldnt get it. The docs always have time for long meaningful conversations with their patients. It just seems like nurses dont exist on that show. I think ER does a WAY better job of portraying the nurses role.
I, too, have watched ER from day one and must admit that I love it. I do realize it's fiction and I love picking out all the "mistakes" but in the end it's entertainment. I think I like it because it's a fantasy based on a premise I can relate to. Not to mention, I've taken care of some of the crazier patients portrayed. I am looking forward to Carter's return and will be sad when it ends. It's the only show that has lasted my entire nursing career!

Of course it isn't real....that is why they call it a tv show. I love Supernatural too, but I don't think there are demons out there possessing people, LOL (though if there were, Dean and Sam could save me anyday.....way off topic, I know).
My husband won't watch the show with me anymore because I will sometimes yell at the tv..."that ISN'T how you say that!" or "yea right, that would NEVER happen!". But I think it is a fun show.
Oh and Dr Greene coming back....it will be a flashback. It is an episode about Dr Banfield (the new chief) and some of her memories. She knew him back in the day.
It was great to see Ray again...cool prosthetics!!
