Please enlighten me. I have seen references to Nurse Rachett as being some kind of evil torturer. Sorry I am so late to make this discovery so please be patient with me. Thanks.

A HORRIBLY MEAN SCARY nurse who worked in the psych ward in the movie "One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest". It is a CLASSIC that you MUST see! It star's a young Jack Nicholson and a few other young great actors I can't remember right now. RENT IT!
Thank you.
I did see the movie a couple of times and it distressed me so much I suppose I just blocked out Nurse Rachett. Is there a name for what I did?
:chuckle
Now I will be forced to rent the thing and watch it again just so I can ID

Louise Fletcher did such a good job with it she won an Academy Award for best actress....creating a character whose name is synonymous with the evil nurse image. Great movie.

Oh, dear. Some of us are old enough to have actually seen the movie's original release at the theatre!

Better novel. The book was good, the novel was incredible. Ken Kesey wrote it.
Good morning, Sue. Yeah, I read the book back then, too. ~ Linda

To give an idea of the impact of the Nurse Ratchet role...we were required to watch the movie during our Psych nursing rotation and discuss her character. I'd seen it prior to nursing school, but I had a different perspective seeing it while taking psych nursing!

I had to read the book for a course. Great read. I read it as a nurse. It was an English course so, of course, they found things I was not looking for. I loved the book, enjoyed the movie. Yeh, it was the movie not the video.
Many nurses have been compared with her attitude and demeanor. Her controlling behaviors were so classic of every negative stereotype. She was the nurse equivalent of Cruella DeVille (sp?) IMO.
Watch the video. Everything you never want to become is in there.

Sorry to be a little nit-picky here but her last name is Ratched.

Wasn't the harm she inflicted on her patients psychological for the most part? I too saw the movie in it's orginal release. Haven't seen it since so I can't remember the details.
Yeah, except for that little lobotomy thing.
