I would like to know the answer to your question. I live in San Jose, Ca and I am having the same problem. 6 months to 1 year paid experience to get hired.

nursing homes are your best bet in this economy. Take whatever you can get, Per Diem, part time, full time, days or nights. It's just as hard for RNs out there. I live in NY, graduated in 2008, couldn't get a job until 2009 and ended up in a nursing home. I did 9 months there and finally got the hospital job I wanted. It was so frustrating!!! Maybe you could get on a subacute rehab unit in a nursing home and get some med/surg like experience that you could add to your resume. Good luck!

Georgia usually requires 2 yrs. Try a small county jail(don't knock it till u try it). A:rolleyes:lot of guards are working on nursing. Helping people is the nature just in diffrent uniforms:nurse:

Go and apply anyway. I am a new LPN who is going back for my RN. I have never worked at all as a nurse, but just landed a job at a LTC on the weekends. I plan on working there until I graduate. They usually like to hire with experience, but were kinda desperate, so they hired me. When they list that experience stuff, that is usually their "ideal" candidate. If you don't apply, you will never get hired. I volunteered over the summer at my local hospital in order to get my 120 hours of clinical time in to make my license permanent, this employer seemed to be impressed that I was willing to do that.

You might have to commute to a smaller suburb, town, or more rural area to find a facility that is willing to hire a new grad with no experience. However, I agree with previous posters who have encouraged you to apply for the jobs that require 1 year of experience. What's the worst that they can do if you don't meet their qualifications? Never be afraid to hear the word "No." If you keep up the persistence, you might hear the word "Yes" from these hiring managers and HR personnel.

I passed my boards in July 2010, have applied everywhere, and do not get any responses. The best thing u can do is keep in touch with some class mates and find out where they are working, have them get u in somewhere. I am beginning to think is who you know..I am on my way to an interview this morning...a class mate refered me to the job in a LTC facility she works in...not where i wanted to start in, but I am taking what i can get so that i can have that 6mos to 1yr experience under my belt...good luck to all looking for work...

It's now 2012, I've been looking for a job as a newly licensed lpn for 3 months and I havent gotten ANY responses. Alot of my classmates who have jobs got them because they personally know someone who works there. Well I don't know anyone working in any facility. I'm really hoping someone hires me soon, this is becoming very discouraging. I live right outside of Philadelphia and I'm looking everywhere.

Apply everywhere. No limitations on applying. I applied too all my RH/LTCs/Hospitals/community resources, and had a ft charge nurse position in a month. Keep revamping that resume and keep networking:)

Just wondering... there is a 120 hour requirement to make a new license "permanent"? Could someone elaborate on that, please?

I agree with apply anyways. Both my clinic jobs were listed for MA's but when I an interviewed they turned into an LPN job for me, I also got jobs at LTC that were calling for more experience that I had but I got them anyways so you never know.
