Where Do You Study??

Published

Hello, I am curious to know where/how everyone study's for nursing school. I am going into my second semester and would like to change up my study habits. I usually study @ home alone. I am a single mother of a 6 year old boy, so sometimes that task is difficult. My parents help me out when I need it. Any ideas would help. Thanks in advance

I either study at the school library or at Denny's during their off hours. Endless coffee. :)

I never ever study at home unless I'm desperate and don't have anyone to watch the kids, and then I try to do it outside away from distraction.

I need to study on a bed for the most part - either at my parent's house or my boyfriends. I was big on notecards and study sheets, however, and they are very portable. I had a part time job while in school and got some if my best studying done in the car right before work. I went straight from school so I was forced to sit there and study. The lighting was good and I could play the music softly. I would also study during my break.

I am not a library person at all. The chairs were not comfortable, it felt too rigid, and I found that hush whispers and people shuffling through papers annoyed me. But if you have a large, Multics floor school library, it could work. At my previous school, I found a quiet nook and cranny on the dead 6th floor. Loved it there when I had a roommate back in those days.

The kitchen table. I enjoy room to spread out. We have an open lay-out at my house. I can be around my family, but study at the same time. It helps decrease the guilt that comes with having to study all the time, but wanting to spend time with my family. For serious study, I wake up early in the morning before the family is up.

I absorb knowledge more proficiently when I study in a solitude and quiet environment, this makes the library the most logical spot. I tried group study, but this does not work for me. I like to bury myself in my studies and come up for air every hour or two. This style works well for me and has gotten me through three and a half years of nursing school so far, one more semester to go.

Honestly, my best studying has been done at TGIFridays with a small group of people! We also study at school a lot, or Denny's as well (they give us a 20% discount with our student ID!)

I recently bought a nice L shaped desk for the office from Office Depot for a reasonable price. I have plenty of room to spread out and still keep my laptop on the desk too. I bought extra lighting for the room (I need it bright so I can concentrate) and its the farthest room back so pretty quiet. I also play background music, light a nice candle, have plenty of coffee and natural light available...I'm thinking studying in this room will work out well.

Im very distractable so I don't study in the library anymore. I have 4 kids and study at home, usually after the kids are in bed, or when they are outside playing or watching a video in their room.

My favorite time is about 2-4pm during my 2.5 yr olds nap time...I send the older kids to watch a movie or play outside and usually get some uninterrupted study time :)

I usually study when the kids go down after 8 at the dining room table. However, I get the multiple interruptions from them needing one thing or another. When it settles down I can usually power through for an hour or two. Sometimes I go to the library but I hate the multiple whispers or the loud talker that doesnt realize how loud they really are.

I like to study at the kitchen table. I can't study anywhere near my computer or I get distracted. I know this and just avoid my computer while studying and doing homework. If I need to use it to write a paper or something I'm fine; but if I'm just studying and it's sitting next to me, I somehow end up on it. LOL.

I have an office carved out of the corner of our master bedroom. L-Shaped desk, good lighting and a great set of noise cancelling headphones. Most of the time I can study with soft music in the background so I put some music on and tune out. Luckily my husband will deal with the kids and keeps interruptions and distractions to a minimum.

I love studying with a group at the student center of my school. Tables, wi-fi, proximity to the student convenience store for snacks and goodies and the ability to speak up sometimes works for me.

The other place I have been known to go is my local library (it is closer to my home than my school). I can use the wi-fi and zone out and really get some things accomplished!

I have GOT to get me an L-shaped desk asap!! Right now I have my writing desk for studying and a desk for my desktop (unreal). I usually study best late @ night, of course when the house is much more quiet. I prop a pillow up against the wall and sit on the floor & lay everything out in front of me. I love studying in the library but for some reason my stomach tends to get very loud & demanding & when I stand up to leave I learn most of my trail mix went into my lap & not my mouth. I have tried the coffee shop scene but they tend to get busy & very loud but you do tend to feel very studious (might I add). Im not a group study person b/c sometimes unnecessary convos get spark or someone has not even read the material, want to just jot down your answers, etc...But I will say a good uncommon place that I have recently discovered....THE BATHROOM!! (Voiding or not) You hear yourself better (b/c of the echo) when your teaching the material to yourself LOL Oh, I commend you guys who can study with your classical music playing in your ears....soooo not for me! We'll see where I end up when NS starts in....(drumroll) 43 days!!:yeah:
