What's the weirdest baby name?

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I know this is a long, old thread, but I have a couple naive, sincere questions-

If everyone on here has seen an lemongelo, orangelo, female & la-a, how have I never met one???

Also, arent these all violations of hippa? Or would you have to give a last name too?

I have also wondered where this army of oddly-named children has been hiding.

I doubt that a name without a surname would be likely to violate HIPAA concerns unless it was extremely outlandish and a specific location/facility name was given, as well. The sad reality is that there are parents who hear a bizarre name and think it's an amazing find. Sure, a little girl named Kumquat Finlandia is unique today, but in five years, there will be three of them in her class. And one of them will be a boy.

Many of the names members have mentioned belonged to people who they knew about apart from their jobs. Celebrity names, friends, neighbors, current or former classmates, relatives, etc., so no obligation to keep those names protected.

If there really is a worry that HIPAA rules might be broken, you can make up a similar fake name (Jupiter Hazelnut instead of Saturn Pistachio, for example) or just keep quiet. You can bet that someone somewhere (who isn't bound by HIPAA) will send the name to Jay Leno or Reader's Digest before too long.

This isn't necessarily a "weird" name but I thought it was funny because of the situation. Took care of a baby "Scarlet" who had hypoplastic right heart syndrome...never was there a bluer baby, we joked that her parents named her that in the wishful thinking that she would in fact be pink! They should have gone with Violet

2. rita, rotta, reid, robby, rosa, roberto, rupert, robin, rhonda, rodrick, rodrigo, ronald, rosaura, raul, reuben, roger, rogelio, and they are adding another name to their family very soon which will be called roma.

3. another co-worker name her kids... ruby, sapphire, diamonique, pearl, emerald, jade, and onyx.

onyx? really? is that a boy or a girl? you'd think they could have come up with something a little better--opal, coral or amber for a girl or jasper for a boy.

all of the r names are boys and girls, and no they're last name is not duggar, and because of privacy, i didn't want to offer their last names. however, in the case of my other co-worker with the "jems" names, onyx is the only boy in the bunch. in addition, i just met a friend of a co-worker and she named her kids... dilan, donny, david, donna, dolly, and she's expecting a set of twins which will be named dolby & dobbie and by the way her name is debra

I think I posted this many months (years?) ago in this thread, but it fits right in with these posts. When I was in my teens, I knew a family that had girls named Deanna, Donna, Dianne, and Debbie (not sure of the exact names or the order). Finally they had a boy. Did the parents give him a "D" name? No, they did not. They named him Fred Jr. after his dad.

The kids got around that by reversing his name and calling him Derf.
