What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

funny you mention these names since one of my aunt name was "etheleen" and her sisters were charleene, and aileen

Heard of a 'Perrylene' once......

in addition, i just met a friend of a co-worker and she named her kids... dilan, donny, david, donna, dolly, and she's expecting a set of twins which will be named dolby & dobbie and by the way her name is debra

dobbie, as in the magical house elf? well, i think in harry potter it's spelled dobby but still!

i also think it would be difficult with them named so similarly, ie dobbie, dolly, donny and donna.

I think I'm going to make a sticky at the top of the forum, titled: "Where are all the kids named Orangejello, Lemonjello, La-a, Meconium, Shithead, Female, lady parts, Chlamydia, and Nosmo King?"

That's a great idea. Don't forget Meconium.

Meconium's in there. Heehee. :p

Meconium's in there.

In more ways than one. :D

I would love to find out if there really are any kids who have been saddled with these names. Even though they started out as urban legends, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that some pixilated parent(s) heard one of them (two in the case of the Jell-O twins), even if it was in jest, and thought it would be just right for their child.

When it comes to hearing the names my patients are giving their babies, very little shocks me anymore.
