What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Okay...around here the name Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards is pretty popular lately). Had a pt a couple months ago who was pregnant with her second child and had he little girl with her. We asked what her little girls name was...Sh'Turquoise. Umm...what? So we asked what her unborn babies name was and she replied "My Daddy said I hafta name this baby somethin' he could spell!") The intelligence. Of course there was always the very black couple who named their baby Aryan Nation...they thought it was so beautiful. I tried to explain what that meant...but they weren't hearing it. We have also had:

Clitoria

Hyaline (as in membrane)

Lucky

Hunter Green

Mylove

Ophelia (the moms last name was Wiggly-Weiner, I"m not joking)

and Pearl (the mom wanted to be the Mother of Pearl!)

The list is endless!

I also new a girl I went to high school with that had her daughter about 2 weeks before my first son was born. So she is 11 y/o now, she named her Harley Davidson, can't remember what their last name is.

My sis works in the local dollar store here in town, and some of the names she comes home with are crazy! One little girl was named chorea, and she swears the sisters name was something like bacteria, lol. Can't wait for them to come back in to see what it really is.

I also had a couple with the last name of Hicks name their little boy Braxton. Guess only nurses can appreciate the irony of that one, lol.

My daughter's name is Cadence! LOL! And yes I know it is a "different" name but I do think it is beautiful and strong. We actually got it from the movie "American Wedding." She was the bride's sister.

Cadence is definitely becoming more popular, as is Atticus, which was mentioned. Don't know if I'd name a boy Atticus, but it is an interesting name.

Same for Cadence, but it is pretty.

I don't know that I'd name my son Atticus either, but I really really like that character.

Yup, To Kill a Mockingbird. A great, great book. Gregory Peck in the movie was awesome too.

I had this tattooed mom came in, well her oldest child was named CHERRY, the next was TANGERINE, and the new baby was STRAWBERRY. this girl had total issues, and how lets their 12 y/o get an eyebrow and lip piercing!!

Another one named her baby NAUTICAL bc she supposedly lived by the way, in Middle River- which is NOT on the water!

Araya Sunshine (first and middle name respectively). Get it??? :D

I know a girl who named her son Lucifer, he was born on Halloween. (I SWEAR) A couple of the Catholic nurses were even crying. And of course she told everyone she knew me! :(

Beautiful little boy thank God his family calls him Luey!

Now that my second niece is born and has been named I can contribute to this thread.

Dbil and dsil were expecting their first child a few years ago and sil was absolutely set on the name Lola Sage.

All I could think of was the song by The Kinks where she " . . . .walks like a woman and talks like a man . . . . ." :lol2:The lyrics to "Copacabana" don't help. :lol2: Actaully, each name in and of itself isn't too bad (not my cup of tea, necessarily), but the two together . . . . .

I also made the mistake of telling my brother who then started making fake strip-club announcements "Lola Sage, now on stage!" Thank God they changed their minds or I would be laughing at the poor child everytime I talked to her or saw her.

The names they actually decided on were:

Tess Eliza

and

Resse Aubrey

A little different, but at least they don't sound like strippers or drag queens.:D

A friend's brother had a Woodstock baby and they named him Judas :(

I used to work with a guy named Jerry Derryberry. (You've gotta say it out loud to appreciate it)

I just for the life of me, can't figure a new mom & dad w/the last name of Derryberry sitting in the hospital room with their adoreable new bundle of joy and saying "Jerry Derryberry" that's it, without thinking of the future ramifications... ha!

There was a politician in Oklahoma a few years ago named Larry Derryberry.
