... all the rash or articles with named submitters? Is there some sort of new program where you have to publish under your own name or something? We have always heard from TPTB here that we must post anonymously, so something must be up.

I stopped reading the articles about a month ago when one was published and the author had huge holes in it. Did some googling and they didn't have a nursing degree or medical background.

I'm sorry that you were frustrated by the article. However, what about the articles written by members? Do people read articles by the members anymore?

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.
The nurse writers position was posted here on the site anticipating we would get several applications. But that didn't happen, so we needed to open it for others outside of allnurses. We received well over 100 applications.

As posted earlier, we encourage our members to write articles. All you have to do is follow the criteria found in How to Submit an Article. The link can be found at the bottom of every page.

As Community Manager, I personally have contacted some of our members who have written quality articles and encouraged them to apply for a nurse writer position. Most have declined the invitation. If you want to write articles, please do. If you would like to apply to be a nurse writer, please apply. We are still taking applications. We base our hiring decisions on many factors, including writing samples. If you have already written articles for allnurses, you are many steps ahead in the process.

I'm always happy to write articles -- I suffer from a touch of the verbal diarrhea when it comes to writing, if not in talking. But I don't want my real name and/or photo up there -- I don't want to not be anonymous. I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. If you're looking for scholarly articles of the quality of AJN or Critical Care Nursing, I've been there, done that and the process was excrutiating. I'm not looking to do that for fun.

There's lot of interesting stories I'd be willing to tell if I could do it totally anonymously- not even linked to my user name. Between everything I've posted under this user name, and the stories I'd tell in the detail needed for them to be logical, the sum of the content would make me identifiable to anyone that knew me in real life (ie, coworkers).

We welcome all article ideas. If you have privacy concerns, please let TnButterfly (COmmunity Manager) or myself (Community Manager Asst) know and we will try to work out a solution.

There are some really good comedy writers here, cheesepotato, oncrn, and beentheredonethat top the list.

Clinically, esme, grntea, juan delacruz and muno can teach EBP to me anyday. Management and clinical problems HouTx, muno, altra and elkpark. I enjoy reading what susie2310, emergent, songinmyheart, canoehead, calliotter commuter, and madwife have to say. Ned is a rock for travel nurses. The Australian and Canadian nurses are too funny and so is grumpy from Scotland. I picture some of you on your phones writing snarky comebacks at 3 in the morning and keeping it real. It's kind of reassuring to hear the truth even if it is just an online forum.

And for the record, although learning about the history of nursing and theories of nursing and all that has been enlightening, it has not made me a better bedside nurse.

Possibly true, and more power to ya, although I submit that a having greater sense of the evolution of one's professional powers can't help but have a positive effect on every level of its performance.

As I am fond of saying, especially to students and newer nurses that haven't had much opportunity to find out on their own, there are many, many areas in nursing and ways to use a nursing education that the advantages of higher learning will make a nurse better-equipped to perform. I was a bedside nurse for a good long time, and I have nothing but respect for a good bedside nurse who uses solid knowledge and critical thinking. After all, s/he will be taking care of me in that bed someday, if I'm lucky. But many of the ones who do bedside today will be too old to do it when I am old enough to be there, and they should consider that.

As for me, when I was ready to move on, I was grateful for the more extensive education that made it possible for me to be more effective in a different setting. I have never heard any thoughtful person regret more learning.

If you look at the relative number of "likes," it appears so.

Uhm, Canadian here, absolutely no idea what WGU is.

Had been wondering the same thing.

What is WGU?

I was scratching my head as well. Glad this was addressed. I had no idea.

I did my RN to BSN at a private Christian university and it was about $12,000. Went to class one night a week at the university which is 70 miles from here - each class was 6 weeks long. During the summer I took my son and dropped him off at a good friend's home who has a son the same age. He thought it was an adventure.

I appreciate with the move towards articles but understand the reasoning behind not wanting to write articles under my real name.

Thanks to commuter and tn and many other "writers" here on AN. One solid go-to person has always been elkpark. I miss rnwriter's input. I could go on and on . . . we are lucky here.

I just wanted to add that I have thoroughly enjoyed Julie Reyes articles. They make me laugh and are well written. Her one about the rattlesnake in the yard was great. When I see something posted from her I always read them. I like the articles. They are a breath of fresh air from some of the other, well same advice over and over stuff.

Keep up the good work!! Hopefully, someday I will be able to contribute when I become a RN.

I love grumpy from Scotland's avatar picture. He so looks the part and should know he has admirers!
