just for fun.............

if i walked up to you two hours into your shift and asked you to empty your pockets onto the table, what would we see?

what type of unit do you work in?

i'm curious what nurses have on them at all times.

thanks!

RN in long term care. What would you find in my pockets 2 hours into the shift?

1. writing pen

2. possibly a couple of unopened alcohol wipes (those pesky finger sticks)

3. a piece of paper with all the initials of residents who need finger sticks and the times to do them

4. another piece of paper with blood glucose numbers and patient initials to be charted...those numbers might also be on the unopened alcohol wipes too

5. some breath mints

6. maybe some lose change

That's it!

I don't carry a whole lot around with me but you would find.....alcohol pads, scissors, pen, my "brain" (sheet with patient info) a sheet of stickers or two. I work on a medical unit at a children's hospital.

I do 16-hour weekend double shifts at a nursing home as an LVN while attending an RN program during the week.

You're typically going to find an ink pen and a permanent marker in my pockets. I push around a med cart that usually has all the supplies I need, so my pockets normally are not stuffed.

I'll occasionally have 4x4 gauze, a roll of tape, a spare lancet, scissors, a foam dressing, a tube of cream, some alcohol prep pads, or a prefilled syringe in my pockets.

I'm an RN on a tele unit.

Emptying my pockets would show pens, alcohol swabs, my "brains", a phone, prefilled NS and Heparin syringes, latex gloves and Altoids. Sometimes tape, but I usually keep that on my stethoscope around my neck.

i work 7p-7a on a tele unit. we have COWs that we use and each patient has a drawer that i put their meds and any other supplies specifically for them (like IV starts, dressings and such) and then we also have drawers on the side where i put tape, flushes, insulin needles, alcohol wipes etc. we have 8 pts a peice so the COWs are a life saver, i dont always have to run to the med room or supply room unless i forgot something. i leave my goggles on the cart too, just in case.

my pockets usually have my scissors, pen light, sharpie, erasable marker (for the board to write my name), red pen, black pen, cell phone, gum, lip gloss, and either a mini burt's bees or a mini vicks for the stinkies since my sense of smell is so sensitive right now (i'm 8 mos prego). occasionally you find a handful of gloves and usually a mask.

i hang my portable phone on the back of my pants and wear my stethoscope around my neck. i keep my kardex's on my clipboard.
