just for fun.............
if i walked up to you two hours into your shift and asked you to empty your pockets onto the table, what would we see?
what type of unit do you work in?
i'm curious what nurses have on them at all times.
thanks!
I always carry two black ink pens, a sharpie, 4 highlighters (orange, green, pink, and yellow as we color code times meds are given), bandage scissors, and a roll of bandage tape. You might find a stray lancet, accu check probe and alcohol swab from time to time. Or a dollar bill may be in there. I often carry cough drops too as I am a smoker. Oh yeah, chapstick too. Can't think of anything else.. oh well maybe some lint. LMAO
I work in LTC
As a standard:
R pocket=Scissors, 4 color ink pen, sharpie.
L pocket= lip gloss, nail file
While working last night, in addition to the above:
roll on icy hot
2 alcohol pads
acouple of extra pens I picked up
old pt name band (that I discarded properly before I left work)
DNR wrist band
Allergy wrist band
A couple of PRN meds that needed to be dished out.
A balled up piece of tape
I read the thread while at work and paused to take inventory. I figured I would be honest and put in all the details.
Great thread! I was wondering if anybody uses those stethoscope hangers that I believe clip onto scrub pants? I saw them in the uniform store a couple of days ago and wondered if they were any good/practical. I can imagine a steth around your neck being a pain at times, and it would be great not to have to stuff it into a pocket. I start clinicals soon so am open to any and all suggestions.
Oh, lets see. It can be scary at times. I have my multi-colored pen (green, red, blue, black), yellow highlighter, black sharpie, scissors, penlight, pack of gum, rolled up paper towel with phone numbers on it (from an admission), couple of post-it notes, tore up orange fall risk band(patient ripped up), infamous alcohol wipes. Oh, yes. If I look further down in my pocket, I see something else (no, it's not lint.) I see a snack bar, a potty, and a water fountain, and a new pair of legs to carry me through the rest of the 16 hour shift.
