What's the one injury that bothers you no matter what?

Published

We all have that one injury we see that just bothers us. We can see so many different things yet there's one that is over the top. For me it's nails. My left nail was pulled up on my thumb yet not all the way to displace it. Gross.

Circumcision.

Poor little guy.

Maybe I don't want to work in the ED after all!!! Y'all are givin' me the weebeejeebies!! *shuttering*

Severe smashing/fracture/amputation injuries, degloving injuries, eye ball injuries....all yuck. Whoever said they hate those severe motorcycle injuries and hate motorcycles, I second that (shudders)!

And yes, fourth degree tears are nasty (poor moms)!

Direct Eye injuries, just gross. When I worked in Ophthalmology we had a sweet elderly male patient with a Orbital blowout, resulting in eye loss and bad facial injuries after he tried to use a table saw to cut a piece of wood and the saw threw it back in his face.,

Injuries don't gross me out. Viral infections do, though. Especially if the patient is an otherwise healthy young person who just needs to go home and go to bed. Ick!

Fractured clavicle...that tiny bone just floating around, ick!

not a injury really but I HATE vomit. Seriously. I would take c-diff poop over vomit. When my kids puke at home and I am cleaning it, I gag lol. I can manage not do that at work. I have seen some pretty gross physical injuries while working as an occ health nurse in a factory (machine injuries) and they didn't bother me. But vomit gets me every time.

Have a similar story (or not), guy in his 30's, remodeling a house. The toilet slid back off the dumpster and shattered when it hit the concrete. The actual injury was bad news, but the ensuing infection from a nasty ol' toilet was far worse. He's lucky to still have his eye.

Teeth. I can walk right out of an open abdominal trauma with intestines hanging out and go right to lunch like it's nothing...but put me in the room during a simple dental block and I feel like I'm gonna black out.

Ugh. So glad there's a specialty for everyone.

While I love a good trauma and listening to stories from other nurses over breakfast, I'm not sure I could handle yours!!!
