Just curious, what's the meanest, rudest, nastiest thing a patient has said to you? Tonight I had someone tell me they wished I would die and go straight to he!! Then they said they hoped it rained everywhere I went. They also told someone they were a son of a b. What's your best line?
Alert/oriented patient who was impossible to please told me, "I hope you can never have children because if the way you treat me is any indication, then you would be a terrible mother". She repeated it through the shift.Still tame compared to how she treated my coworkers. She was truly the meanest patient I have ever encountered.
Sheesh, from an a and o patient, that's not mean, that's evil. Reminds me of my last mother - in - law.
Many things, too many to count. Even as nurse you shouldn't take verbal abuse from ANYONE.
I once had a patient who said he was going to get out of bed and kill me before shift was over. I welcomed him to try. Apparently unbeknownst to him he was in the hospital for a broken femur lololololol.
Considering that I work in LTC, not surprised at some comments. But one night I finished doing LLL blood sugar and she was waiting for a CNA to get her ready for bed. So I had a few minutes and did her HS care, lotion, powder ect. Get her PJ's on and she whispers "You're just trying to kill me, kill, KILL, KILL" Then went on to holler repeatedly "I'm dying"

That is just evil.
I began a new job in LTC and had a resident who was VERY picky (unbeknownst to me yet).
I helped her to the toilet and she called me back in a few minutes later to help her get back into her chair. I was unaware I was supposed to pull up her pants (she was able to do everything herself) so she just stood there and goes, "WELL?!"
Me, "Well what??"
Her, "You just gonna stand here like a dumb*** or are you gonna help me?"
Me, "What is it you need help with?"
She looks down and back up at me and says, "You're right. I'll just go out there with my britches around my ankles."
So I started pulling everything up and she says, "No no no, you are so dumb. You are not doing it right. Everything about this is wrong. Start over."
I didn't understand what I was doing wrong exactly and when I asked she started berating me, calling me names, told me she was going to report me (for what, I don't know) and I was going to lose my job and my license.
...she ended up being my most favorite resident and always requested me when I was there. I was very saddened when she passed away about a year later.
Been there,done that, ASN, RN

Had a patient in DT's .. 4 point leather restraints. She reminded me of Linda Blair in the Exorcist. She looked me straight in the eye.. told me I had "effing ugly hair".
Man.. that hurt, I do have unruly hair.
Was it unprofessional to laugh.. and tell her that her hair was not looking so good either?
P.S. also told her .. the one with the ugly effing hair, had the keys
