whats for lunch

Nurses General Nursing

Sometimes I have no clue what to pack for cold lunches for work. If I don't have leftovers I never know what to bring. Sandwhichs get so old.

So what do you like to bring for lunch. I feel I need some inspiration.

Notice how I said "new grads that can't put 2+2 together." I didn't say that new grads can't put 2+2 together. The new grads that can't put 2+2 together are the ones that I eat. No point eating nurses with any sort of experience or new grads that have their stuff together.
I would have imagined you'd prefer to work with inexperienced and/or incompetent staff to make it all the easier for you to play Candy Crush at the nurses station unnoticed. :)

When I'm not dipping new grads in hot wing sauce or ranch, I'll bring in an almost-cooked stir fry and let it finish cooking in the microwave just before eating it. One of my past jobs was working as a chef, so I can prep and cook fairly quickly.

I'm not a nurse but a CNA. Night shift they usually provide food for free but a lot of the time it's gross so I usually pack a couple yogurts and a drink like Naked. When I cook I pack leftovers.

Seriously, there are probably 20 in various flavors in my locker at work. I hate eating cold food. The Campbell's Chunky ones aren't the healthiest. The calories aren't horrible - most aren't over 400 for the whole 2-cup container, but some have more than 30% of your daily saturated fat an 80% of your sodium, which is why they taste so good. I will forgive them for the awful sodium content because I can eat one of these on a 12 hour shift and it holds me over. I love the kickin' buffalo style chicken, the grilled chicken and sausage gumbo, hearty cheeseburger, the loaded potato ones, pub-style chicken pot pie, of course the various chilis...

And sometimes, when feeling rather nostalgic, I will bring peanut butter and jelly. On whole wheat or oatmeal bread. Some baked chips and water.....

And suddenly, it is 1981......HAHA

Lean Cuisine usually 10/$10. Or on sale for 88cents. Stick one or two of 'em in the cooler along with a fat free yogurt. Apple, banana, or orange from the fruit bowl and I'm good for 12 hours.

Where do you shop that has Lean Cuisine so cheap? I never see them much below $3. The $1 ones are generic no-names.

To Camillus - I'd like to work with you. Staff potlucks must be awesome when you're cooking.

You guys are so healthy. I couldn't feel satisfied eating something healthy for lunch at work. I crave comfort food. I cook myself and bring left overs... Often it's a high carb meal. If I don't cook then I bring a super cheap Asian noodle thing to microwave or tomato soup.

Seriously, you guys are inspirational. I always crash after a high carb meal and require a 2-3am coffee to compensate. I should eat healthier... Every week I say NEXT week I will buy healthy lunches.

Cooking a surplus of steel cut oats, adding brown sugar and packing a container of those with fresh fruit is a good, healthy carb meal. Add Greek yogurt and you're good to go.

It's that 5 minutes of freedom that you get every 8th shift, provided it's not during a full moon and the alignment of Jupiter and Venus are complete. According to my lunar calendar, I should be able to get a lunch break on the last day of May. High hopes.
