I've heard some doozies for call INS to work. 1. Dog having puppies 2. I'm having a miscarriage when I could hear a party in the background 3. I'm tired 4. I worked yesterday 5. Out of gas 6. I'm going out of town
just to name a few
what excuses have you heard for someone to use to not come to work
i feel a migraine coming on - this was a call at 3 pm for a 7 am shift... cripes... take some Imitrex and get on with it!
I used to suffer incapacitating migraines that would last for well over 24 hours. They didn't respond to any of the triptans - in fact, Imitrex made my throat close up, which was terrifying - and they ate NSAIDs for lunch. The only thing I could do was curl up in a dark room with a bucket and pray for sleep. So when I had an aura, you bet I called in right away, so that my coworkers and manager would be prepared for my absence as far in advance as possible. Imitrex genuinely doesn't work for all migraines - would that it did! Oh well, at least mine are shorter and less frequent now that I'm in my 30s.
The non-nursing job I used to work at, we had a girl who once called out with the excuse, "My mom died."
Weeks later we found out her mom didn't die as she called out again saying she was in a car accident and her mom signed the police report. And another incident when a customer(who she probably knew from outside of work) came in and said "oh hey how is your mom doing"
She didn't last too long.
True true... but it seems like there are crazy things happening to the same people over and over and over.... it is still pretty funny to hear some of them though... Like "I cant come to work today, I have to take my son to the Dr. No biggie, right? But we all know her children are grown :)
Very true. You can always tell who the repeat offenders are. I don't call in sick much. I get to take alot of time off, but I don't call in sick, very rarely, I've been blessed.
The year is almost half gone now, and I have not even taken one sick day this year so far. Now, cause I said that I'll get sick this week.
I have a postcard on my desk that says, "I've used up all my sick days so today I'm calling in dead."
My Mom, Not a Nurse, but would frequently call in to work since she never ever spoke to a live person, all she had to do was press 1 for sick 2 for car 3 for kids, she called in so many times I bought her a coffee mug for her desk that had the same thing written on it...it even had a coffin! OMG...ROTFL!
While working in the SNF, NOC Shift, I answered the phone as the CN was busy, It was the frequent "sick caller again" this time I called her bluff, it was Friday night (who wants to work anyhow right?) any way she says that she does not have a baby sitter for her 14yrold. I told her..again? why don't you just bring her to work with you, we could use the extra help!...my CN heard what I said....30 min later the CNA shows up, with her daughter in tow (She had help that night) we never got a sick call from her again!
Yes, I got yelled at, but at least the CNA stopped calling in cuz of no babysitter! Hay I was tired of working short, so I did what I felt like doing. :yeah:After all, they told me to answer the phone and handle what ever it was!
