I've heard some doozies for call INS to work. 1. Dog having puppies 2. I'm having a miscarriage when I could hear a party in the background 3. I'm tired 4. I worked yesterday 5. Out of gas 6. I'm going out of town
just to name a few
what excuses have you heard for someone to use to not come to work
This is a little outside the mainstream, but funny....
When my husband was in college, he had a prof who would accept, without penalty, any excuse for an individual to miss class (other than test days). The catch was, you had to call or email the prof with the excuse before the next class started. At the end of the semester, the prof read some of his favorites. They included:
"My blankets wouldn't let me out of bed."
"My friends Jim Beam, Bud Weiser, Yakov Smirnoff, and Jack Daniels were in town last night."
"I had 'company.'"
"As interesting as I find your class, nothing was tearing me away from a Scooby-Doo marathon."
"I'm plotting a way to have [former Cleveland Browns owner] Art Modell killed."

Darn...I wish I would have thought of the Art Modell one...Love it!
Have you ever experienced Insomnia? I have and it sucks. I had gotten only about 16 hours of sleep after 96 hours and I still had two shifts to go last week. In my book, Insomnia is a real excuse.
I agree! I can sometimes be up for 72 hours with just 2 hours sleep a night. There is no way I can work to my best- and I have tried! thank heavens I haven't had insomnia like that for some time now!
What nurse doesn't have insomnia!!!! This particular nurse is young, single no children and helps out part time at the family pub!
I'm young, single, no kids, and a CNA. I have had crippling insomnia that has made it impossible to function at work. And I don't do things like calculate meds and make critical decisions. I think there does come a point when you haven't had any sleep when you just throw in the towel and decide you can not physically go to work today.
I had a drunken uncle get into a similar situation. He worked in one of the big automotive plants and went out for happy hour after work, got stewed and could not find his car ( a blessing, he could not hurt anyone but himself ) He set off on foot for home (over 15 miles on dark back roads) and ended up getting hit by a car. He laid there in the weeds for 2 days with a broken hip until he was found. Imagine that call off the next Monday morning...These are hilarious! A girl called into my old job one time b/c her truck had been "stolen". Turns out, she was at a party and parked the truck somewhere and then the next morning she forgot where she left it and just assumed someone stole it:rolleyes:
I guess I just don't get it...isn't there remedies out there for insomnia?
Sometimes. But like migraines, not all meds work for all people. And sometimes meds don't work at all.
Insomnia seems to be really bad with people that work nights. I have no trouble sleeping myself during the day, but some people really struggle with it.

Not everything works for everybody.
Sometimes the hangover (for me, from benadryl) is as disabling as the sleep deprivation would be.
Most prescription hypnotics are either addictive or at least habit forming and have significant side effects.
Most prescription hypnotics also are recommended for short-term use only ... ie for 2days to a week.
We know so little about sleep and sleep disorders that there just aren't answers for everything.

My appologies. I guess I'm lucky. I'm one of those people who fall asleep before my head hits the pillow.:zzzzz
True story and so not funny, hubby calling in for wife because she was dead. They had an arguement and she jumped out of the car when he was going 55 mile per hour.
My favorite excuse though is "Third day and flowing heavy" Umm this was her excuse once a month. Don't you think that after while you would get this checked out?

My school required us to call/email/carrier pigeon our instructor when we were going to be missing class. I only missed one class, and I called in because I was in labor. My instructor actually sounded very excited that I was calling in
