What do you wear to work as a school nurse?

I looked through the last 10 pages of posts and key word searched the forum but did not see much on the subject of what most school nurses wear. Do you wear scrubs, lab coat, business casual, or something else? I was just hired into a middle/high school position and they said I could wear scrubs, but didn't give much direction. What do you find is most appropriate?

black scrubs and running shoes. Nothing more comfortable than those

Scrubs Monday through Thursday (Pink on wednesday y'all!) then I wear normal clothes for Fridays. (Which is usually my band shirts or gaming shirts because why not?)

The cafeteria staff were scrubs at my district, so I was asked to wear a lab coat to differentiate myself, so I wear street clothes and a lab coat.

Our school, even though public, has a dress code (khaki's and a polo), so I'm dressy/ casual. So slacks and a top but I usually wear my sketchers because I do a lot of running around.

I formerly worked at a district that required the nurses to have the same dress code as the teachers. It was brutal!! Currently, i get to wear scrubs and I could never go back. On Fridays, I do wear a spirit shirt and jeans as do the rest of the staff to change it up a bit.

We wear the same as the teachers- except jeans day, in my case. It is hard. I get paid peanuts weekly and dressing business casual and trying not to look dumpy isn't easy. I miss rotating through the same 6 navy blue scrub tops. Or the variety of peds jackets I used to have. Most of all I miss having only 2 pairs of work shoes that are warm, comfy, and look fine with anything and with socks. I don't do jeans day because I'm not paid enough to donate money for that privilege!

I would first recommend reading any documents from your employer regarding the dress code to make sure you are in compliance. At that point, if scrubs are allowed and you're comfortable in them, then wearing them is fine. Once you know what your school prefers, you are then free to wear what you feel most comfortable in that meets these requirements and allows you to fully complete all nursing tasks.

School nurses in my district wear casual attire. It's a very relaxed environment.
