What are some unique, non-acute RN jobs?

Published

Do any of you work at unique fields in nursing? I've seen job postings and saw positions like Infertility nurse, cosmetic surgery, medical spa nurse, IV infusion nurse... etc. I thought these were very interesting and was wondering if there are any more? I love exploring options and I'm aiming towards less acute settings for the future... I already know bedside is not for me but I'm sticking with it for now.

- cruise ship nursing

- school nursing

- nursing in group home settings

- high end nanny gigs (home health for children of special needs/chronic care issues)

- flight nursing

Nurses are needed everywhere. There have been nurses for royal/political families, nurses working in orphanages, nurses working with sports teams, you name it.

I read somewhere once that those cruise ship nurses never really get to get off the ship and see the sights. Bummer.

Hmmmm....I'm curious too!!

Specializes in L&D.

A nurse I worked with used to be a nurse at the Bronx Zoo!

Amusement parks always need nurses for their first aid tents. :smokin:

aww that's no fun!!!

I recently read an article about a church that hired a parish nurse to go out and visit those they knew were ill.

Specializes in M/S, ICU, ICP.

awesome. i wonder who covers their malpractice. some large md practices do the same. i know they have nurses at disney world. now that would seem cool!

I think being out at a National Park or something would be nifty. It'd probably be kind of busy though. I once worked with the park service as a ranger. Tourists are pretty clumsy, lol.

Some nurse oversee patients in clinical research studies.

Home Health isn't really acute. Might be an idea for you.

I work in a very large cardiovascular office where I do moderate sedation for transesophageal echocardiograms, insert IV's for outpatients and inject contrast for various cardiac sonography, do stress treadmill and chemical stress tests etc. It can get busy at times, but NOTHING like a floor. That's what is so awesome about nursing.....SO many options!!
