Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!

The pandemic was promoted by the people who thumbed their noses at simple mitigation and vaccination. Failure to mitigate was what advanced the pandemic. That was nice right wing spin though.

That's really disrespectful to all the doctors and nurses that practically got on their hands and knees to ask people to get vaccinated and not risk their lives by catching covid or at first to wear masks, social distance, etc. This has happened surge after surge as it moved around the country filling up ICUs. Maybe a little fear-based reality was in order.
While maybe not as deadly 1.4 million people tested positive in one day and hospitals are reporting being stressed. Thankfully in areas that are Omicron dominant like here in Florida it's a different scenario even though were #4 in the country for rate of infection. Virginia declared a state of emergency. Would you say the governor there, a Democrat, is "promoting the pandemic in a way that instills fear and confusion" or is there really a problem in Virginia?
But I get it, at this point we should switch our focus to living with covid and getting on with life without being so fearful. Which from what I see in people traveling, going to football games, restaurants, etc. is exactly what people are doing.

I keep reading that over and over and can't figure out what you're talking about.
Democrats misrepresented Covid as being something to fear? How is something that spreads easily and kills almost 1 in 50, and leaves another 1 in 50 wishing they had died, not something to fear all by itself?

You all took one comment I made to one poster who said people were afraid to go to work because of Republicans "promoting" the pandemic, and are now presenting it out of context.

You quote this: As if Biden was the one on a mission to decimate the IRS and to promote a pandemic in which people are reluctant to re-enter the work force.
I can see how you might interpret that as saying that Republicans promoted the pandemic. I didn't take it that way at first and thought it more of a rhetorical situation about what people have accused Biden of. To me the statement is confusing because if anything Republicans have minimized it, or sent mixed messages. I always go back to the example of Trump issuing guidelines of ending the lockdown and then saying "free Michigan" when they didn't meet his guidelines. Or our governor promoting the vaccine and then backtracking. Republicans certainly didn't "promote" the pandemic.
Still, it doesn't change how I responded to what you said.

This is a well educated and well informed opinion.

I stand by my statement that Republicans promoted the pandemic. They silenced Dr. Birx and wasn't she THEIR hired gun?) They didn't encourage vaccination. They allowed Trump to go to the public every day spewing his stupidity and disinformation. In my county, the county commissioners have forbidden the county health department to recommend vaccinations and have fired the medical director because he gave them flack for having the department's hands tied. They tried to forbid masking in school but were called out for being out of bounds. However, the school board was frightened by the ferocity of the anti-vaxxers and dropped the requirement when classes started in January but within a few days, the masks were back on for the usual, obvious reasons. The Republican led legislature seems to spend all their time in court attempting to bind the governor's hands - that has been their mantra. Oh yes, there's the tightening up on the voting laws and forbidding people to hand out water to people standing in line to vote. My tax dollars at work:(

This is the sort of political pandemic leadership that you are talking about, right?

Thanks for stating your stance. I hear and understand. They would say that by allowing the freedom of choice to wear a mask or not, to get vaccinated or not, to gather in crowds is them promoting freedom. I think that's fair. But what promoted covid more than anything else was people's unwillingness to use common sense and during the worst of the many surges ignored medical professional advice.
We all got the same information. Some acted accordingly and some to their detriment and the detriment of others did not. I'm not blaming Republicans for that.
We all got the same information and I think that much of the blame for covid is on us the people.

We all got the same information about covid but some people were overly influenced by the Trump example when it came to mitigation of the contagion. I'm not certain why so many republican politicians don't understand that they're supposed to be encouraging and promoting civic minded, altruistic and patriotic participation in the mitigation of this disease...not heralding individualism and personal rights to risk infection.
Our health system can't take much more. The health professionals are at their breaking point. We don't expect our military to deploy into combat zones for 2 full years yet we still have political push back on even masks for pity sakes.

It's been Democrats that have "promoted the pandemic" in a way that instills fear and confusion, and makes people reluctant to enter the workforce.
