Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!
21 minutes ago, subee said:I don't know if there is an answer to your question at this time. Chicago ALWAYS had a higher homicide rate than NYC . It is logical that one reason is that there's easier access to guns in Chicago. ...
Regardless of which city had the higher homicide rate, if you attribute the increase to increased access to guns, both should have gone up equally.
24 minutes ago, subee said:... And I AM suggesting that the presence of guns in the hands of first time buyers during a pandemic has contributed to gun violence, especially during domestic violence and children accessing unsecured guns. ...
Is this your opinion? Or can you cite a reputable source documenting increased domestic violence and violence by children accessing weapons in the homes of first time gun buyers?
29 minutes ago, subee said:... I wouldn't have even made my previous post if I weren't concerned about the homicide rates because I know they are a direct reflection of domestic violence stats that frequently go unreported. But we sure see the results in family courts.
Again, can you cite a reputable source documenting this association?
10 minutes ago, subee said:Sorry, I forgot this question. What do you mean homicides in "all areas?" Homocides were up in many areas. I picked those two cities because the FBI made those stats easier to find; not to imply that those cities were the only w areas......if that's what you mean by the word area. ...
If you are suggesting that the increase in gun sales is responsible for the increased homicide rate, then the rate should have increased the same everywhere. It not doing so suggests, at least to me, that there are many other factors in play.
Please don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to downplay violence in general, or gun violence in particular, but I think too often, too many cite emotion rather than fact.

No, the rates would not necessarily go up equally. That would imply equal access to guns which is just not the case. People north of NYC can get guns fairly easily but in NYC it is more difficult. But here in the Midwest, you can easily procure a gun. Really easily. Please explain the emotion in my argument. But again, I see domestic violence cases in the court; I don't.see the people that don't make it to court, but I do read the newspaper and can make observations.

Gun sales are not distributed equally. I am not anti gun because I love my meat too much. I have friends who hunt and never thought less of them for doing so, especially if they shared the meat with me. I have eaten a variety of animals except those of the Eddie Bauer cookbook under "small furred mammals." Except for that 1 squirrel when I was a child and had to be polite. Do I believe that all those people who stood in the lines in our gun stores at the beginning of the pandemic are going to be responsible gun owners? Absolutely not.

Just Google the child deaths by guns during the pandemic and you will come up with the numbers. It is real. Too many numbskulls don't lock their guns. More morons own guns.

If someone on the right makes a claim there are many on the left that expect them to source it, rightfully so I might add. How then, is it my responsibility to source your claim?

These are all good questions. There is some information available.

I remember reading that when it was first published.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/may/31/us-gun-sales-rise-pandemic
https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/19/politics/gun-violence-spike-2021-explainer/index.html
One article talks about the rise in gun sales the past couple of years. The next article talks about the rise in gun related crimes in the last couple of years.
Obviously there's no sociological evidence that one lead to the other. Did crime rise and people buy more guns, or did people buy more guns and crime rose.

It's funny that just yesterday I was talking to my bestie about how I loathe MTG probably more than anyone. I hate feeling that way because but she really is a hateful witch. I said that she knows how to keep herself in the news because every now and then she'll say something vile and make the news.
True to form and my assessment of her, she calls a colleague trash and talks about the Jihad Squad. She keeps reaching new lows.
I wish I wouldn't react or that she wouldn't get attention because that's what she's after. The more angrier she makes the left the more happy she and her base are. They love being this offensive.
I will say Mace's response was epic. "This is what (emojis showing bat, poop, crazy clown) looks like.

She is loathsome, indeed. But what really bothers me is that she has followers, and seemly the support of her party.

Sorry, I forgot this question. What do you mean homicides in "all areas?" Homocides were up in many areas. I picked those two cities because the FBI made those stats easier to find; not to imply that those cities were the only w areas......if that's what you mean by the word area. It's just so easy to kill someone with a gun. None of that messy body to body contact that other methods require
