Yeah...the original American antifa fought against nazis. But when the civil war was fought, slavery was illegal in the USA. The Civil War was was not fought to free the slaves, it was fought to preserve the union because the social conservatives at the time would rather destroy the country than change views about oppression. The slave states were fighting to preserve their right to enslave others and in order to maintain slavery they wanted to leave the United States.

No, the reality that white people are the authors of North American racism is not destroyed by the fact that white people fought against facists or against secessionists.

Wrong. It was the democrats that wanted to preserve slavery. And saying it wasn't to free slaves is a conspiracy theory!! LOL

Social conservatives of that era called themselves Democrats and today they are called Republicans but they were always conservative.  The civil war was fought over secession.  I misstated the status of emancipation during the war.

The southern states fought for independence from the federal union of states.

From the various articles of secession: the reason for the war was secession.

Georgia

The people of Georgia having dissolved their political connection with the Government of the United States of America, present to their confederates and the world the causes which have led to the separation...

They go on to list their grievance with desire to continue slavery as one.

Mississippi

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course...

South Carolina

Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union

The people of the State of South Carolina, in Convention assembled, on the 26th day of April, A.D., 1852, declared that the frequent violations of the Constitution of the United States, by the Federal Government, and its encroachments upon the reserved rights of the States, fully justified this State in then withdrawing from the Federal Union; but in deference to the opinions and wishes of the other slaveholding States, she forbore at that time to exercise this right. Since that time, these encroachments have continued to increase, and further forbearance ceases to be a virtue...

Texas

A Declaration of the Causes which Impel the State of Texas to Secede from the Federal Union.

The government of the United States, by certain joint resolutions, bearing date the 1st day of March, in the year A.D. 1845, proposed to the Republic of Texas, then *a free, sovereign and independent nation* [emphasis in the original], the annexation of the latter to the former, as one of the co-equal states thereof...

THE SECESSION ORDINANCE.

AN ORDINANCE TO REPEAL THE RATIFICATION OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BY THE STATE OF VIRGINIA, AND TO RESUME ALL THE RIGHTS AND POWERS GRANTED UNDER SAID CONSTITUTION.

The United States was moving toward legislating against slavery and the southern states mentioned above decided that they would rather preserve slavery by dissolving the United States and becoming sovereign nations.  Lincoln believed that the founding fathers envisioned a country that evolved past slavery.

Those social and political conservatives wanted to preserve slavery and were willing to sacrifice the republic to achieve that end.

Yes. They wanted secession so they could keep their saves! So they went to war. Others didn't feel that was right. Lots of angry white men died fighting against other angry white men and  preventing that. So what's the issue?

When I was a little kid, I thought it was over slavery but was over any illusions by the time I took American history in college.  Steven Spielberg, in his "Lincoln" made the point clearly that the war was not over slavery.  Maybe Cclm only got to take Canadian history, doncha know?

The issue is that the war was fought to defend the United States and prevent the Secession of the slave states.  Secession was the reason for the war, not slavery.  These details are important.

The issue is that, clearly, not all white people are racists but North American racism was authored by white people.  It's difficult for me to accept that an indigenous female is arguing that white folk didn't intentionally target, exploit and oppress the native population after they arrived on continent.

I think for me the issue is the angry white men left a legacy and angry white men still have to fight against other angry white men.  Not to keep their slaves but to keep their dominance.  I know what they mean when they say "Make America Great Again".

I'm going to have to disagree. They left a legacy when they brought down the most evil man in history and his entire regime. Hitler and the Nazis. The legacy was very clear, "white men " will stand against evil men even of the same color and faith to protect the innocent lives of people with differnt skin color and a differnt faith.

Do you think those "white men " would have been able to do that without their  masculinity? Eating soy and purple hair?

History looks bad for "white men" all men but history also proves there are far more that are good than bad. WW1 WW2 Civil War.....etc.

Now could we please show respect to the men and women of all colors that have fought for our freedom, including yours to say terrible things about them after they died for your right to save it?

I'm sorry to all the men and women of all colors that died for us. We said we would never forget, some have but I will not.

It's difficult for me a indigenous black and white female to accept that a white man (*using your far left idiology) would tell me if they accept me or not! Why? I don't think and act the way YOU think I should? That's racist!!

I am a "other" because I will not allow far left radical democrats to tell me I'm oppressed and I am a victim? To tell me white people are all racist while being racist at the same time?

There is many stereotype about the "Native Population" and how we feel about our heritage. It's not found in your non propaganda sources that you deemed not propaganda but through story telling though our elders. There us very little in the written record other than well by the white man.

After I get over feeling bad because you don't accept me, I'll tell you about it.

I get that and acknowledge that but I am focusing on the whole picture, not just the legacy of peace, justice and equality which has thankfully prevailed.

If that makes me a racist and sexist in some people's eyes then so be it.

I will acknowledge that white men don't corner the market alone in homophobia and racism.

Okay.  Not sure what this has to do with anything, but I will take a pause.

They have my utmost respect.  I'm very thankful for my freedoms including the right to protest.

I'm thankful there are men and women of all colors willing to sacrifice on my behalf.  I'm the child of a wounded war veteran and I love America.
