There are all types of music styles.

But, which do you gravitate to the most?

Post your comments, if you like, regarding your favorite groups/singer.

What makes that group/singer stand out for you?

I'm wide open - of course my favorite is what I grew up on and that is rock and roll.

The only thing I can truly say I do not like is rap music that denigrates women or advocates violence and drug use.

Let's see what is here by the computer - Dire Straights . . . Steely Dan . .. .James Taylor . . . . Mary Chapin Carpenter .. . . Jackson Browne . . .Eva Cassidy . . .Lyle Lovett . . Aretha Franklin . . . Blackhawk .. . Eagles . . Heart . .

Oh - I really don't like anyone who "oversings" . . .like Celine Dion.

steph

I'm with you, Steph........Celine Dion was OK for a short while in the late '90s, but her 15 minutes of fame have lasted waaaaaaaaay too long.

You've got some good stuff there! Like yours, my musical tastes are really eclectic, but my heart will always belong to the rock 'n' roll of the 1960s, '70s and '80s. The Beatles.....Elvis.......The Kingston Trio......The Doors.......Elton John.......Carole King.......Peter, Paul and Mary......The Romantics.......The Eagles........Robert Palmer.......there's too many to name, but the music from those three decades form the soundtrack of my life, from my formative years throughout my teens and young adulthood, and they bring back wonderful memories.

I also enjoy country music a lot, although I don't care much for the early stuff and the depressing, twangy my-woman-done-me-wrong songs.

In addition, I listen to Latin music (oh, to be able to play Spanish guitar!!) and World War II-era bands like Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra, Al Martino, the Andrews Sisters and so on, and whenever I hear one of those songs I still catch myself humming along.....my older patients, especially, love it when I sing "Fascination" or "Good Night Irene" to them in my faulty soprano, even though I can't carry a tune in a 55-gallon drum!

:p

I didn't vote because there are way too many types of music I love. However, I would not rule out using nuclear weapons to rid the earth of:

1. Country-old school and all this "cross over stuff"

2. Shriekers- male and female (Celine, Maria, Bolton, Groban, and everyone who has won "American Idol."

3. Rap/hip-hop

4- In terms of rock and roll, pretty much everything written after about 1985.

Specializes in Everything but psych!.

I'm eclectic. I like a lot of different kinds. If you like blues, try some of Cowboy Junkies. I especially enjoy "The Trinity Session" collection.

Others, opera, classical, blues, Nina Simone, The Corrs, Matchbox 5, Five for Fighting, Peter Paul & Mary, James Taylor, America, Eagles, John Denver, Statlers, Beatles, Dido, R.E.M., Everly Brothers, Jana Stanfield, Annie Lennox, Indigo Girls, foxy Josh Grobin, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Israel, Na Leo, . .

There are a couple of types I do not like, rap (the kind where the person is screaming and hollering), and heavy metal.

I love music! As a lot of people already said i too can pretty much find a good song in any type of music. I will say tho i absolutley love kid rock and am pretty stuck on his music right now........and, i always get made fun of because i love 80's music. :p

Wow, I agree. Although Merle Haggard lives nearby and he is awesome.

Marla - I love Johnny Mathis . . .I remember my parents listening to him. Nat King Cole too.

I think the music you grow up with has to have an effect on you. A certain song comes on and sweeps you back to a certain point in time.

Ah, and then there is romance . .. some songs pull at your heart strings and make you long for . . .. well .. we each have our own memories. :)

The list is too restrictive!

Specializes in Happily semi-retired; excited for the whole whammy.

I like lots of different types of music, but when it comes to listening to the radio, the stations I tune to both play music from the 70s. I love Springsteen, Billy Joel and Fleetwood Mac. Even listening to Barry Manilow brings back good memories for me!

I totally agree!

My very favorite music is retro dance music. It sounds weird, I know. Songs like "Pump Up the Jam", "Around the World ("La la la la la...")", "Rhythm Is a Dancer"...LOVE IT!! Anything that gets my feet moving and pulse racing draws my heart like a moth to the flame. I'm also a big '90's fan. Mom is an '80's gal. (I guess we're fans of period music, huh? :rotfl:
