What do your study spaces look like?

Published

I'm frantically trying to make my work space as pleasant and efficient (and nice looking) as possible. School starts on Monday and I'm still trying to re organize my space to make it work well for me - not an easy task. This may be sort of a dumb post - but I wondered what all of your study spaces/offices look like? You could post pictures if you want or have them or just describe your area :). It might be fun!

My area so far has a craft desk w/all my craft supplies on one side w/a bookcase also dedicated to crafting related items (and a printer).

The other side has my "work desk" with the regular desktop computer and another bookshelf filled w/books my husband and I like to read and some home organizational files and stuff.

I just went out and got a little $20 metal industrial restaurant style 3 tier bookshelf for all of my nursing books/gear/notebooks. I figure that if I don't have a spot for them specifically, it could get disorganized pretty quickly.

What do you all like in your work space? I had to take out my old giant tv to fit in all of this stuff - so it's been making me want a flat panel BADLY. I don't work well in total quiet, but unfortunately that isn't in this nursing student's budget at the moment :lol2:.

I'm pretty particular about my work space. I can't learn in a cluttered environment! We moved into a new house in June, and now I'm lucky enough to have a whole room to dedicate to an office space. :) I have a desk and several bookshelves with my nursing books (as well as a ton of my husband's books) along with my laptop and printer. There's a big window above my desk, and a dry-erase board next to it with important dates and deadlines, etc. written on it. If you don't have one I highly suggest buying one, I think you can get one for about $15 at Walmart.

I also like a lot of plants in my office - I just think it makes the atmosphere friendlier - so I've got a couple of spider plants around my desk.

I love doing my work on my bed...so my work/study space looks like...a comfy bed!

I move things around when I have to do work so there's room and such...but I have my reading pillow, and a pillow on my lap to cushion the books, and pens and pencils by my side etc.

I really dislike working at desks and tables for the most part...I always have (always as in since elementary school). On occasion, such as if I'm studying with a group or if I'm writing a paper, desks/tables are good...but for reading and note taking, I usually just can't stand it.

I have an entire room upstairs classified as my "dormroom" lol. I have an older dining room table against one wall with a rolley computer chair. I have some folder holder type stuff on my table and a basket for junk and a few containers for my TONS of index cards. I also have a 5 shelf bookshelf and a 3 shelf one. I have a loveseat and a chair toward the back of the room and another funky round pink chair near my table. It's a nice cozy room with everything I need except for a water dispenser, in which I'm already debating buying a water cooler for up there, lol! But I figure going up and down the stairs for drinks/snacks can count as "exercise" so I think I'll forgo the cooler idea!

I didn't create a study space this time like I did in college the first time. My study space is wherever I happen to be at the time and depends on what else is going on. If I'm cooking dinner, then I review lecture notes at the kitchen table while I'm wiating for something to boil. If I have to go to the doctor's office, I take my Kindle with me and look through pharmacology or review physiology. If I don't have any course material with me, I always have a pen and pad or envelope or some folded up piece of paper and I use those to drill/write out whatever I can recall - helps to jog my memory and generate questions that I can write down and later look up the answers to.

So far this week I've studied in the kitchen, in the restroom, the doc's office, briefly at a picnic, at school after class, while I ate lunch, after my kiddo went to bed (on my bed) and before class in the morning (at the computer). If I try to sit in a comfy chair and read through a chapter word for word, I will fall asleep after 5 minutes.

I made a study plan that includes the readings and assignments for all my classes and covers two weeks in advance. That way I don't have to organize my thoughts every time I sit down to study. It helps me keep track of where I am, see the big picture, and have a basis in case I need to shuffle things around if something comes up.

There is absolutely no spot in my house that I could designate as "mine" for studying...but I do love to spread everything out on the bed and study there. I will wear earplugs and stretch out and study my little heart out :rckn:

Dining room table! We eat in the kitchen or den and never use the dining room table. I have all my "stuff" there (even my laptop). I always put one lecture notebook in my purse whenever I leave the house (never know where you'll end up waiting).

haha, he's my study buddy

I don't have a set place just where ever I can find peace and quiet and a place to lay my stuff.

I have my office that is just mine. It is the one room I allow to get dirty through the year and I love it. I love a little chaos in my life so it fits wonderfully. I have this god awful looking chair that is super comfortable to sit in that usually a classmate is in while we are doing work together.

I also have my opsail flag and world cup banners in this room. I am a huge soccer fan and my brother was in Europe during the 06 world cup and got a banner of the German team/beer that I love. The OpSail flag is a parade of ships that go around the world that has only happened 5 times since 1964. The flag was the one flying on our ship as we were in the parade. Bot bring back so many memories.
