  1. I actually just finished paying the application fee a minute ago! I put down though a start of summer 2013. We'll see!
  2. It asks question about which type of PPE you should wear when entering a patient with a particular infection. It also asks which type of patient should you see or call back first. Mine was alot of infection control, priority and delegation type stuff. I found it VERY similiar to Kaplan questions. In fact one was pretty much identical!
  3. Hi everyone. I just need a little support I guess. I passed my NCLEX last week, :yeah:and accepted a position in my local hospital's ICU starting in a few weeks. This was my goal job, when I entered nursing, so I'm beyond excited. I had a clinical in this ICU for 240 hours working 1:1 with a preceptor, which was awesome and how I was able to enter this area fresh out of school at this hospital. Anyway, I'm an older and married new nurse, who went into this becuase it's my passion. Of course the money's not to shabby either, but honestly, I'm in it for my heart over the money. I'll give 110% and love the fact that I do frequent vitals and am just able to be with my patients as often as I can due to the smaller load. I don't want to be that "bad nurse" or the one "who's not cut out for ICU" and I'm scared! I'm not sure how to prepare myself before my first day. I will have a 2 week off the floor orientation in which it's a mini school review session from what I gather. So I wonder if there's anything more I should do before that? Also I am current with my BLS for healthcare providors, but I believe I'll need ACLS, do I do that now? Or is that something the hospital has me do? I guess I'm just looking for any words of advise anyone may have. Being the NCLEX is over, I'm a bit bored and really don't know what to do to fill my time for the next 2 weeks. Pathetic I know! Thanks for reading
  4. I would call the testing center and tell them you have a prescription for the med and bring it to them. I would do something, that's for sure. If you have the bottle I would go right there with it and show them you are legally allowed to have them in your system. They should then change the result from + to - as you can have it in your system per doctors orders. Good luck
  5. Where do you live? Geez, I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time finding a job. I'm in NY, and nobody I graduated with is unemployed luckily. Here's an idea too, I know sometimes your school has an "in" with certain hospitals. Maybe ask them if they could guide you? That's awful for you!
  6. :clpty:CONGRATULATIONS!!:anpom::anpom::anpom::dancgrp:
  7. I watched all the online Kaplan content review videos. I was too discouraged from doing questions as I kept getting such low scores. So reviewing worked better for me then questions
  8. I debated the same thing. I didn't think I was going to get the ICU job honestly, as they didn't really want to hire a new grad. So before I received the offer I was a wreck trying to figure out what to do. I was offered a position on the floor (resp floor) that I knew I had to fall back on of the ICU didn't come through, but I dreaded it. Honestly I ended up deciding I was going to hold out for CC somewhere vs take something that may not be all I had hoped for. I came into nursing with my deep seeded passion, and didn't want to lose it doing something I didn't like. I had friends that told me I was insane, and take whatever is offered, but I didn't agree. So my opinion is hold out for what you want. You may have to expand it a bit, maybe go from just women's health to that and peds or something, or mental health/substance abuse in women. Keep your same goal but look a bit outside maybe?
  9. I just love this type pf attitude. I am also going straight into the ICU right outta school. But I will do anything needed to be the best nurse I can be. I'm extremly dedicated and did debate going straight to ICU vs med-surg for an entire semester. I asked my teachers, my family and my friends all for their advise, and finally felt confident ICU is where I should start as I know that's why I went to nursing school to begin with. The way I see it, is why not start ym first year, where I'll get the majority of my training and also be kinda molded into a nurse right where my heart lies. I think it takes alot of soul searching, but if you belong in CC go for it
  10. I think the only lab value I had was hyponatriemia. But definatly know infection control and what to wear per infection.
  11. I also did horrible on the NCSBN questions. I did the 3 week course as well and don't think I ever made a passing score! I took the NCLEX in 75 questions and passed despite those darn NCSBN scores, lol!
  12. Thanks B52-H, I'd brought my bottle with me when I went. She made a copy of the label, but I haven't heard back from them. I went a week ago, she said they'd call if they needed anything. I'm still nervous, but so far no calls to withdraw my job :yeah:
  13. I did it an hour after my test, and got the good pop up. I found out yesterday I did pass with 75 questions!! Hooray!!
  14. I checked the PVT about an hour after my test, and got the good pop up. I proceeded to check it another 6x in the past two days until I got my quick results now, showing a pass!
