  1. There are short BS to RN programs out there---usually a year long. Or you might consider medical school. I'd contact many schools b/c they can vary widely in their requirements.
  2. it's a fairly good program, but the content is entirely self-study. there are no lectures. sometimes there are videos from youtube and other sources. you do have to find your own clinical sites, preceptors, and a clinical supervisor each semester, which can be stressful. let me know if there's anything else you want to know!
  3. What may have been an April Fool's joke elsewhere was actually a regular day in the life of Nurse John.
  4. i'm perplexed.....if PMHNP is such a great field to go into, then why are so many universities discontinuing the psych track of their NP programs?
  5. ditto everyone else. another BS did not help me at all in the nursing world, EXCEPT at my facility those with any BS get paid $1 more per hour........so in about 50 years that degree (and student loan) will pay for itself....or something like that. i truly don't understand why nursing does not acknowledge any other BS. seems like a narrow focus to me. anyone else know??
  6. With shots, it's always better to give than to receive.
  7. Congrats on the job offer Pink Pinkster!!! And welcome to this site. Once you start working, I don't think it'll be as bad as you imagine. It's a matter of getting oriented to what that practice wants, and then it's just repetition, which helps boost your confidence. Soon you'll feel as confident as an APN as you do with management. If I were in your shoes, I'd be seeking APN jobs, not RN jobs. Why learn two different positions (which can be very different) when you've got the brains behind the APN? You can do it!
  8. I got a personal email of acceptance, then a few group emails. I had to decline though and know someone else did as well, so hopefully that means some of the others can move up into this class. Did you hear anything yet?
  9. just got an acceptance email this morning :)
  10. i couldn't wait for frontier's decision either and went with a different program (chiro RN i just sent you a PM). i am relieved to not have to book a flight with only 6 weeks to spare. Good luck to everyone!
  11. Well written article on how managed care has impacted nursing! You wrote some very true words.
  12. For how much longer should I keep trying to resuscitate this guy??
  13. An aquaintance of mine finished the FNP program at 75. She said it was always a dream of hers but kept making excuses and putting it off, and then finally decided to fulfill her dream.
  14. Thanks for the replies. I've been fortunate enough to be working as a nurse. I was just curious about this "nursing shortage" I hear about but don't see.
  15. The majority of my classmates from nursing school was unable to get hired, even a year later. And I know a great many nurses, both new and experienced, searching hard for nursing jobs right now. Yet people outside the field keep telling me they hear repeatedly about a nursing shortage. I have yet to see one. Anyone know WHERE there is a nursing shortage? Is there such a thing at the moment?
