What states allow LPN/LVN in the hospitals??

Nurses LPN/LVN

Updated:   Published

Currently living in CT, am a 2+ year LPN. So far been working in long term care all 2+ years. Have grown tired of being in LTC. Would like to be working in a hospital setting, unfortunately in CT they don't hire LPNs in the hospitals. Just wondering what states have hospitals that hire LPN/LVNs??? Going for my RN is not in the cards in the near future, before anyone asks. Thanks for any help you can give me.

New York has them as well, mostly city hospitals.

I live in Texas, where LVN/LPNs are still utilized in the hospital setting.

I attend school in Oklahoma, where LPNs are also utilized in hospitals. I am attending an LPN-to-RN bridge program in Oklahoma City, and many of my classmates are LPNs working in the OR, ER, med/surg, and other hospital departments.

This is a facility by facility requirement. No state keeps LPNs out of the hospital that I know of.

Specializes in LTC.

Good luck. Maybe you can get your RN to have a better shot at working in a hospital ?

The OP already stated that returning to school at this time may not be an option for her.

Maybe there are other areas that can raise your interest...rehab, corrections, home care? I can understand your frustration. I guess that if you reside in an area that is not heavily populated, and the few hospitals there are not hiring LPNs, then, it does decrease your choices. I wish the best for you!

We live in Louisiana and our state does and has as long as I can remember allow LPNs to work in the hospital setting. I guess I just never thought about it, but I didn't realize some states may not work LPNs in the hospital setting.
