Hi everyone,
So I'm one of those soon to be nursing students who has a million and one questions. I started a thread on what I could do to prepare myself or get a head start since my program starts in January. Most replies have been to learn now how to deal with the stresses of nursing school. Well just the thought of dealing with the stress is stressing me out so obviously I'm gonna need an outlet:uhoh21:...haha
My question to all you nursing students is "what do you do to relieve your stresses from nursing school"?

Best thing I've found is relaxing ("meditation") and working out (strength/resistance training, yoga, bicycling - on and off road, and walking the dog with Mrs Bobylon.......) - oh, yeah, and playing my guitars :) Also try to maintain a healthy lifestyle/diet. Good luck, and good for you to be thining about combatting stress.....school has been a lot of fun, but it IS a lot of work and can indeed be stressful sometimes......

I usually take a warm-hot bath, turn off all the lights and lie down on the coach with an aromatic candle lite; with scents like pumpkin pie or pepper mint, or sweet potatoe pie. I know all those scents may make you hungry...lol, but for me it truely relaxes me and I usually wind up falling asleep on the coach. It's my favorite relaxing stress free thing to do. hope this helps.

We are so alike are you sure we weren't seperated at birth? I was going to ask the same thing. I have now developed insomnia from worrying
OMG, we need medication....oh wait I'm on medication. WTH? I'm so excited for next fridays meeting. The drop out, or should I say fail out rate scares the hell out of me!
Me to, I already warned my family they will no longer here from me as of january.( I think I am almost relieved *ha ha*) I have my christmas list made full of nursing stuff. I have also told my boss under no circumstances will I be there on such and such days, and I will be only working a day or so once it starts. Oh I am so excited for friday I could just burst

A hot bubble bath with a glass of wine, candles instead of lights, and a good book. After the kids are in bed, of course, or else I'd end up with them in there disturbing me!
I also enjoy "movie time" with the kids and hubby. We'll pop popcorn and turn off the lights and just hang out on the couch watching old movies.

Im a nursing student that is graduating in december and i can tell you that time managment is everything!! When one of my instructors told me that my first day of nursing school i thought to myself ok well im a pretty organized person i should be fine...but i was wrong! time became my enemy and it seemed that there just wasnt enough hours in the day! Here are some things that i did for myself to relieve stress throughout this crazy year...first off i definately bought a student planner which soon became my best friend bc i would document everything in there... (also something as little as taping determination quotes in a student planner can really get you through those rough days when you feel like you cant make it) I really enjoy cooking and i like to get into the kitchen when im feeling stressed and make a meal from scratch( i know sounds like that is even MORE stress but im italian and thats how i was raised) i also like to exercise and maintain eating as healthy as i can. Ultimately, i fell into a routine for every day of the week and tried my best to stick to it and that also relieved a lot of my stress. I hope that i was some assistance to you!!!:nuke:

get a good nursing buddy support system so you can all stress out together!!
do tae bo
take a nice long walk.
journal
browse through allnurses :)
and remember to stay close with your non-nursing friends too. When you are in nursing school you are going to feel like you are eating, sleeping, and dreaming nursing!! I am in my last year of nursing school now and I find that hanging out with my non-nursing buddies is usually just the stress-reliever i need!!
good luck to you RN2B!

Ok, so this isn't pretty, but I'm just going to be honest!! I'd like to say eat healthy and exercise, but the reality of it is that I gained 40, yes 40 freakin lbs (which I'm now working really hard to get rid of before graduation in May!!) I've made great friends in nursing school, and the thing we all love to do is eat! And when it comes down to a choice between exercising and sleeping, sorry, I'll exercise after graduation! I can imagine everyone reading this cringing! haha, sorry!
There is one thing we LOVE to do, and it's cheap, fun, and great at stress busting. So what is this wonderful past time you ask? Why bingo, of course! Our bingo spot even has a college night, so it's $3 for a book, can't beat it! Now I warn you, I've been called a big dork on many occasions for this, but I'll be a happy dork when I win that $750 prize!
Finally, on those rare occasions that I have a spare $20, I really enjoy getting a pedicure. Can't do the manicure because of clinicals, but nothing beats having someone massage and paint your feet!
So yes, nursing school is unbelievebly stressful, but you just show up, do what they tell you, and it'll be over before you know it!
Hope this helps! Good luck!
