What reason is used for call offs!

The company I work for has a no fault policy for call off's-This means you can call off for what ever reason you want nobody will ask and it is ok.

So when ever anybody calls off I never ever ask for a reason I just ask when their next shift is and if they think they may be back.

This doesn't mean staff don't provide me we reasons why they are calling off, over the years I have heard some excuses and sometimes I have to bite my tongue not to say 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME'

1/ I have to go to the airport and pick up my girlfriends daughter-really!

2/ My car wont start-so I am not bothering to find somebody to drive me 2 miles to work

3/ I am annoyed with my co-worker so I am not coming in today

4/ I am tired I had a busy weekend (not tired from working, was a weekend off)

5/ So and so always calls off so I am calling off today

6/ The cable guy is coming

7/ I booked a dentist appt

8/ My doctor only works on a Thursday

9/ A tree fell down in my garden

10/ It's my once a month migraine

What I want to say is please dont tell me why you are calling off, I don't care because if you tell me it makes me mad:mad:

Although we did get a call once from a nurse saying she wouldnt be in. We found it odd the call originated from the ER so we went down there and she laughed and said you caught me. She had her leg in a cast from a fall she took. We all got a good laugh out of that.

That sounds like a HIPPA ;) violation :lol2:

Uhm, migraines can be debilitating; something a nurse should know. Perfectly legitimate reason to call off. :uhoh3:

Hehe, when I was working as a retail manager I had one of my assistant managers call in because she "had caught her teenage son having sex in her bed". The previous day.  :lol2:

I was thinking about calling off recently ..... then I realized its not my style. I was thinking I would never call in sick if I wasn't sick unless I was dead or something similar. So then I though maybe I should just call in dead. I ended up just sucking it up and dragging my miserable self in and working when I really really didn't want to.

Wouldn't it be a bit eerie for your supervisor to hear you call in when you're "dead?" LoL!

Nah it was my best friend. She texted me on our way down that she had hurt her leg and to come see her. But yeah, any other person and it might have been ha ha.

I can't call in, once I start, it's all over. Once is never enough, it's like M&M's.

I haven't had any really creative call in's, glad to hear a few I can use. Thanks!

I have never called in sick. I cant bring myself to screw over my co-workers like that. As much as I hate my unit sometimes, the people I work with are good people and I know how much it sucks to be even shorter than we already are.

Not everyone who calls in is screwing over their co-workers. Sometimes people actually do get sick.

This is pretty bizarre, but notable as an ultimate call-off. An employee where I worked at years ago called off, because her husband had been murdered. She stated that she would be back to work in two days. We were all in shock r/t the tragedy (and also thinking what a strong person she was), and many co-workers visited her at her home to provide emotional support and ultimately the obligatory tuna noodle casserolle. Also, another co-worker called off with the flu (August). Our workplace had a "sunshine" committee (go figure the name) that organized collections for co-workers when there was a death in the family. So, needless to say, a collection was taken up for this employee. Two days later, said employee and oher co-worker (whom she was having an affair with) were arrested for the murder and dismemberment of her husband. Body found buried in backyard. The employee who organized th the collection (treasurer of said "sunshine" committee) was mortified and had to give all of the donations back. Did not have to explain after the headlines hit the local newspaper. Shortly thereafter, the "sunshine" committee was defunct.

I think he means calling in sick when you're not. Not when you are.

Isn't this whole thread about calling in sick when you're not? Why misinterpret his words that way?

Number 3 cracked me up.

"I have never called in sick."

He could have said that he had never called in sick when he wasn't, but he didn't.
