What reason is used for call offs!

The company I work for has a no fault policy for call off's-This means you can call off for what ever reason you want nobody will ask and it is ok.

So when ever anybody calls off I never ever ask for a reason I just ask when their next shift is and if they think they may be back.

This doesn't mean staff don't provide me we reasons why they are calling off, over the years I have heard some excuses and sometimes I have to bite my tongue not to say 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME'

1/ I have to go to the airport and pick up my girlfriends daughter-really!

2/ My car wont start-so I am not bothering to find somebody to drive me 2 miles to work

3/ I am annoyed with my co-worker so I am not coming in today

4/ I am tired I had a busy weekend (not tired from working, was a weekend off)

5/ So and so always calls off so I am calling off today

6/ The cable guy is coming

7/ I booked a dentist appt

8/ My doctor only works on a Thursday

9/ A tree fell down in my garden

10/ It's my once a month migraine

What I want to say is please dont tell me why you are calling off, I don't care because if you tell me it makes me mad:mad:

I once had an employee call off because he was having penile leakage and thought he should have it checked out. Like we need to know that.

Had one loon call in on Christmas to say she'd been kidnapped on the way home from last minute shopping, her kids presents had been taken, and she'd just been let go:uhoh3: Uh huh. And I've got sand dunes in the Everglades.... The overall consensus was that she'd returned the gifts for some money to smoke or snort....

There's a per diem on my unit that has seriously used every single excuse there is to not come for any of her shifts for the past two months or so. Three car accidents in the past two months... oh my! Why are you signing up for any shifts then? And why are you still working here?

We had a formal T & A policy, which was enforced. An absence is an absence is an absence. If your sick, say you're sick. A general explanation is good, and during flu season I will ask about flu symptoms, but otherwise I don't want to know your intimate history.

Just be sure you call in according to policy; minimum of 2.25 hours before the start of shift

Some people probably do abuse FMLA, but we also have the option to require substantiation of occurance.

I rarely call off, but I understand the once a month migraine one. Many migraines (mine included) have hormonal components. I only call off if I am vomiting or close to it, but they can be pretty miserable none the less.

Ditto. I always hate to do it, but I cannot function when I have my monthly migraine :(

I think the migraine is a legitimate excuse. I've never had one but they can be extremely debilitating. It's not the same as calling off because you have to pick someone up from the airport. It's a legit medical excuse. Some people can work through them but everyone's is different and some people truly cannot function!

I think it's less the whole migraine thing but more when they have their "monthly migraine" three times in the same week. Or like a PP said, the person who had three car accidents in less than two months.

I agree why is she signing up for shifts. And why is she still working there

I have never called in sick. I cant bring myself to screw over my co-workers like that. As much as I hate my unit sometimes, the people I work with are good people and I know how much it sucks to be even shorter than we already are.

Although we did get a call once from a nurse saying she wouldnt be in. We found it odd the call originated from the ER so we went down there and she laughed and said you caught me. She had her leg in a cast from a fall she took. We all got a good laugh out of that.

I worked with a girl who left her shift mid-way through because she was constipated. She was about 3 or 4 months pregnant at the time, and wanted to go home and take some MiraLax. I was livid - she was not sick, no bowel obstruction sx, just hadn't pooped in a few days and felt a little bloated. Diarrhea is one thing, but slow bowels during pregnancy is another.

I worked with a woman who used that excuse. Turns out she wasn't lying; she actually had 3 accidents in 2 months. She ended up taking time off to go to traffic court (more than once).

i cut the first day of my senior year of nursing school because my cat was in labor.:lol2:

(it was a boy.... she dropped in my lap as she ran out of her box startled by that last hard contraction. i grabbed her and put her back in the box with him and said, "here now, you have to take care of this! i can't bite his cord and lick him to make him breathe!" all was well.

they never tell you anything useful your first day anyway....)
