I had a research position (not nursing) that I stayed at for about 6 years before nursing school. My first nursing job, Geriatric med-surg I stayed at for about 5 years. Now I'm med-surg per-diem and been there 1.5 years. I think I wanna do ED, as with my current position, I go there for boarders and the fast-track. I do love all the options. And I'm also figuring I should plan for when I'm older if I'm not still able to do all the physical tasks.
Four years. I'm a chronic malcontent and it's a source of personal dissatisfaction because I don't want to be perceived as a job hopper. I just get bored easily, and husband and I are kind of nomadic by nature.
We JUST relocated to a new state/new jobs, and we're both hoping this is it for at least the next 7+ years (which will take our youngest through high school). He hopes this will be it until retirement (realistically 15 years) but I know us. But, hey, maybe!
where we just moved to is a smallish community, with basically one hospital that offers a job in my very specialized niche of nursing, so if I were to change jobs, it would mean moving out of the community. Unlike Denver, where job opportunities are endless, and I worked for three different employers in under 4 years.

What is the longest time you have stayed in one position, where was it, and how long are you planning to stay in the position you are in now?
I have been a school nurse for 16 years! I'm debating on changing it up. I love the schedule more than the job. I've also done med-surg, oncology, L&D, OR, and home health. Those all lasted anywhere from 4 months to a year. My favorite was L&D.
I was just curious. No reason other than that. :) I love the hospital environment BUT I always seem to get stressed out and overwhelmed from all the short staffing. I love the fact there is such a variety of options as nurses!
