What do you listen to while studying

Published

So I am sitting here brushing up on some stuff that I came across on our unit the other night and jamming out and was curious what everyone listens to. I know its not everyones thing to have noise when studying but Im guessing there are a few of us out there.

My playlist:

Pretty Lights ( Vida PLEASE tell me you have heard of them)

Daft Punk

Some Lil Wayne

ES Posthumas

Adele

If I say no will we have to rethink this friendship?? LOL I am assuming I am the Vida in question but no I haven't heard of them. I just went and checked them out though and at first on listening to still night I was like UMMMM WHAT THE HECK IS THIS. But I held in there until the rap started and wasn't bad at all, I was getting into it.

Usually I am listening to my kids fighting! Really though, I can listen to a variety of music. I will always be a Hip Hop girl though down deep. But if one is looking through my iPod they would probably be like UMMMMM she has Stand By me, Brown eyed Girl and some Emenim, Katy Perry,Tupac, TI, Sting, Jay-Z ?? What?!?

A few songs that when I am in a "mood" I could listen to over and over and just lose myself in singing at the top of my lungs:

Luniz- I got 5 on it.

DRS- Gangsta Lean

DMX-remix to the Aint no sunshine song from his movie with crazy man segal.

Adele- Rolling in the Deep

TI and JT- Dead and Gone

Little funny side story. When I got a call to set up an interview, it was a Sat. I wasn't expecting the call. I was told it would be Friday or Monday to set it up. So here I am rocking out to some TI and I answer the phone. The person called from a regular cell number and usually the only calls I get on house phone are bill people or kids friends. So when I answer and she says who she is I am thinking CRAP and go to hit mute on my ipod stero thing but it turns up. Then kid comes in and I am like SHHHHHH I am on the phone go play.

It was for a Peds position :|

I love music and I love to dance and sing and I was doing dance skits at the rec center for talent shows when I was 10. Looking back it was probably inappropriate for a 10 year old to have a dance routine to Tone Loc's Wild Thing.

My kids have picked it up from me and I have some hilarious youtube videos of them! Also of the freshman football team singing and rapping to California Girls when I had to drive them around one night. Probably my parenting is often frowned upon. lol

Oh and I can not have it quiet. I go to bed with music playing and studied with music playing and have to bring the ipod stereo into the bathroom when I shower.

Classical... It really helped with the Mozart effect. I had the same playlist that I listened to all through nursing school. Sometimes when I panicked during the test, I could close my eyes, breathe, and imagine the music and I was able to recall information.

Ha ha yep that would have been you. They are local to FoCo so I was hoping you had at least heard of them.

I can't focus if my music has too much of a beat because I tend to bounce along. So, instead I usually listen to the LOTR soundtracks or ambient music on Pandora.

I am shocked we have rappers in Fort Collins. (this is the yuppiest place I have ever lived and my only complaint about this town.lol) Are they white?

Straight Punk Rock. From The Clash to NOFX. Lets me get all my aggression and stress out. Although, I prefer to listen to it on the treadmill, rather than when I'm studying. Sometimes, if I'm doing mindless school work, I crank it. Music is definitely my escape :) (PS. Also like a little Old School, i.e. Tribe Called Quest)

(Nontraditional) Classical 'mix'.

- The Elder Scrolls: 'Oblivion' Soundtrack (RPG video game - xbox 360)

- Fable II (RPG video game - xbox 360)

(People are really sleeping on video game scores) .

Oblivion and Fable!! Great soundtracks. Fable III is good, too! Since you like video game scores, you might like Mass Effect 1&2 (2 is personally my favorite of the two).

Video game soundtracks aside, I like instrumental music while I study. Classical is good but these soundtracks are my faves: The Village, The Piano, and as I mentioned, Mass Effect.

I could never listen to music because I would stop studying. I listed to podcasts - This American Life, Point of Inquiry, Sound Opinions, Planet Money....

I have no idea how I'm able to study listening to that. I think it just creates a good background noise for me.

Oh they are just mixers. They are white. And dont forget about those white boys 3OH3 ha ha They do a lot of smapling from other tracks. Like All of the Lights by Kanye West, that is my favorite.

Thank you for mentioning mass effect! Great freaking game and incredible music. Call of duty has some good stuff too.

To all the fans of instrumental/movie soundtracks:

Steve Jablonsky

Hans Zimmer

Lisa Gerrard

Two Steps from Hell

are all incredible.

Firework. Katy Perry.

"Cause baby you're a firework

Come on show 'em what you're worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework

Come on let your colors burst

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

You're gonna leave 'em all in awe-awe-awe"

Boom, boom, boom

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

It's always been inside of you, you, you

And now it's time to let it through

This motivates me :)

Yep lot of Kanye on my iPod too. I will have to check out that one that they do. I was just curious because I have always lived in very diverse areas and FoCo was the whitest place I have lived. lol
