I have noticed recently that there has been a slew of negative topics regarding nursing so I would like to liven things up a bit for my very first post! :yes: Please comment below what is your most favorite thing about nursing since you've started your career?

Being able to have Monday to Friday off, not paying daycare and still have an awesome check.

I also enjoy my work in the SNF, talking to patients, seeing their progress, hearing their live stories. I also enjoy getting the compliments I get every day I work about how caring I am plus my smile that everyone adores. I call it my enchanting smile. I have my not so good days but they become history the moment something as simple as a compliment is uttered

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

I work in a level 1 trauma/stroke/SICU. I love being there to help someone during the worst time of their life. And for those times we can't save them, I love making their death as comfortable as possible.

I really enjoy the 1:1 assignments where I get to manage a whole host of equipment and drips. With those, I really have time to know everything about the patient and get everything done before day shift gets in. It makes me feel like a rock star to hand over a perfect patient that's fluffed and buffed with perfect vitals.

34 years at it. I can say my "favorite" thing is .. I saved more than a few lives.

I also made a whole lot of patients comfortable.. and sent them out better than when they came in.

Don't get me going as to..what it took from me ...to do that.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

What I like the most about nursing:

Teaching people how to maximize their health, despite their current situation-Most of my shift is about educating pts and families how to manage their health, whether from my knowledge base, local resources, and/or both;

The benefit of working around knowledgable nurses, and being able to give back the same support to newer nurses;

Being able to maximize the nursing process;

The work/life balance of working odd hours and being able to enjoy days off while others work the 9-5 grind;

That despite the inadequacies in the healthcare system; I get paid pretty well to help navigate my pts through the process.

The freedom to think out the box to help the healthcare team make a plan of care and put it into action;

and, above all-the power of a needle. ;)

What I like most about nursing is the flexibility it has.... You can work anywhere in a variety of settings and department. Being a nurse is not limited in a hospital, office, or company. Nurses are everywhere and the demands are a lot. There are different specialties and fields that nurses can be at.

These are some of the list but definitely not limited to the following:

1 – Health Technologist

The best thing about being a nurse is you acquire the knowledge and skill to care for people, which also benefits yourself and the family and people you are around. It is a personal profession - one of the best profession in the world :) Good luck.

Knowing I helped someone.

My coworkers.

Everyday I learn something new.

Hanging IVs. (yeah, weird, but what can I say?)

As another poster stated, getting flashback.

Last but not least, that paycheck is really nice.

Thanks for asking this question. I'm heading off to work in a few minutes and appreciate the opportunity to think positively.

Corny as it may be, I take great joy in taking care of other people and have since I was a little girl.

As somewhat of a fringe benefit, health is the great equalizer and I have met some fascinating people, including a Holocaust survivor, a surgeon in WWII, a Department of Corrections addictions psychologist who earned his/her degree while serving 30 years for cocaine trafficking and many other interesting people. Everyone has a story to tell and it is a great honor to know many of these people.

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

that when it's all said and done, I have made a significant difference in people's lives. I have seen people born into this world; I have seen people leave it. I have cared for people across the life span and cared for and met people I never would had I not been a nurse. It's a privilege and a pleasure to say that. And I have stories. Many stories to pass on.

"Wouldn't take nothing for my journey"......................

Are you staying that a nurse can be all the things listed above? If so I'm sorry you are very mistaken. Those are not all nursing specialities. Some are. Those are all specialties in the medical field.

I scrolled down to see if anyone else addressed this. Nope, not even close, sorry, you just listed a bunch of healthcare occupations.

Nurses can be nurses out of that list...and that's about it.

Oh man - do not crush my hopes - I already had my eye on number 34,43 or 46 - it is great what a nursing license can do for you!
