I have noticed recently that there has been a slew of negative topics regarding nursing so I would like to liven things up a bit for my very first post! Please comment below what is your most favorite thing about nursing since you've started your career?
Those moments in the ICU when your open heart patient is fast asleep, oblivious to the fact that you've been on the phone with the surgeon multiple times and working behind the scenes to keep him/her from going into acute renal failure d/t a complication from the procedure. By morning, kidneys are resolved and the patient is stable for dayshift. Little victories.
Also, the variety in nursing. I've worked ER, Med-Surg, palliative care, CCU/MICU, and soon will add cardiac cath lab to the list. No getting bored in nursing!
As corny as it may sound, I loved making a difference in SNF patients' lives and watching them get better and go home. I also enjoyed LTC, where I built relationships with the residents and (sometimes) their families. :)
Not corny at all. Why even bother being a nurse if one doesn't care about making a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families? I love reading posts where the poster obviously cares genuinely about patients and their families, and strives to provide very good nursing care.
That I earned over $400,000 over the last two years working as a bedside nurse.I have noticed recently that there has been a slew of negative topics regarding nursing so I would like to liven things up a bit for my very first post! Please comment below what is your most favorite thing about nursing since you've started your career?
*Always something to learn
*Flexibility and options as far as different kinds of nursing
*Teamwork, knowing my colleagues have my back....and I have theirs
*Being able to go back to school while working and furthering my career
*Making a difference where I can. Not all pts are open to their care/health/learning, but when they are...teaching them and supporting them is an amazing feeling.
*Meeting someone on some of their worst days and trying to make it a little better
*Amazing coworkers who have the same crazy sense of humor and can talk about just about anything while eating lunch
4 days off at one job, let's me make $$ at another.
Flexible schedule, if I plan properly I get to save my PTO for when I'm actually sick and not for errands
good benefits
tuitiion reimbursement
ability to learn something new every day working at two academic medical centers
teaching students assigned to my patients, especially when the lightbulb goes on
