What kind of watch do you wear?

I start clinicals this semester, and out of everything I need to do to prepare, you'd think picking a watch wouldn't be a big deal. But it is. :o

I never wear a watch and don't own one. What kind should I get? The only requirement from my school is that it has a second hand.

Do you have a favorite brand or style? Anything I should avoid?

Timex with a black Modena band. It rocks! and looks cool.

I had my mom's old nursing watch - a Hamilton with a stretchy band - restored. That is what I will be wearing to clinicals and school.

This is what I had in clinicals, and have continued to use it as a RN. It's black, so won't show as dirty or stained, and plastic so I can sanitize it easily. A little pricey here, but I found mine on sale for $25.

I like the ones that clip on your stethoscope. Its out of the way and doesn't increase the risk of passing nasty germs along or bringing them home. Some hospitals here don't allow watches anymore...something to keep in mind.

I have a white one with a rubber band, big face, a second hand, colorful numbers and glows in the dark. I wipe it down with a bleach wipe everyday I get to work and when I go home. I bought it at walgreens and I paid $8.00. Whenever it decides to breakdown, I will buy another. I get lots of compliments on it

I rotate a couple of $12 no-brand watches from Walmart. They have a big white face, second hand and the date box which saves my bacon regularly when I am chart checking and double check the date every single time.

I got this one: Nurse Mates Vine Jelly Watch | allheart.com Water resistant, "jelly" band, has military time. I start nursing school this fall, so I can't speak to its durability yet.

I hate things around my wrists, but realize that sometimes I must count pulse rates manually. A cheap walmart track stopwatch worn around my neck solves this issue.

Can't imagine not having my watch lol

Specializes in ER, progressive care.
This is mine. I love it..because I can wash and sanitize it! Women's Ironman Sleek Watch - Black/ Purple : Target

Same one I have, except mine is blue :) I love this watch!

Love, love, love my fob/pin watch. I haven't worn one on my wrist since nursing school. Nothing on my wrist to get wet/pick up icky stuff. I can just glance down to see the time or use the second hand for a pulse or resp check, and it glows in the dark. What's not to love!
