What kind of watch do you wear?

Published

I start clinicals this semester, and out of everything I need to do to prepare, you'd think picking a watch wouldn't be a big deal. But it is. :o

I never wear a watch and don't own one. What kind should I get? The only requirement from my school is that it has a second hand.

Do you have a favorite brand or style? Anything I should avoid?

My wife gave me a Citizen Calibre 8700 watch as a wedding gift. I never take this off besides bedtime. I will be wearing this at all times including class, lab, and clinicals. This is my treasure, I hope to pass down to my kids if I have any one day.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Fossil watch!! It has a metal band so I can actually sanitize the mess out of it! I had a rubber "jelly" watch before and all sorts of lint and grime would get in between the links. I love being able to wash this one since it is also water proof. I was hesitant to spend $80 on a watch because of how scratched the face on my rubber one got....but so far (8 months) no scratches!! I'm tough on it and it keeps looking, and working, great!

I mostly used the "stereotypical nursing watch" (as I jokingly referred to it) by Timex. White band, red second hands, water resistant, indiglo night light. I like one that is easy to read. However, I had a problem with it keeping accurate time. So, sometime during my last year, my mom picked up a cheap boxed watch at Boscov's. It was between $5-$8 dollars. I like it more than my Timex - It is a bangle bracelet (so easy to take on and off), second hand, and has kept up with accurate time. It doesn't say the watch is water resistant anywhere on it - but I have not had any problems with it - even after all of the hand washing.

Where i work wrist watches are not allowed as per our Infection control nurse. We have to wear pin on watches or no watch at all. Most of us wear no watch.

No watch? I'd be lost. Next thing you know, we'll be nursing butt nekkid because of IC!

I recently bought a 'Prestige Medical' watch from the nursing school I'm attending. Honestly I bought it bc it was cute and leather with bling around the clock's face. It was only $20 so I said what the heck, why not. AFTER I got home I decided to look it up- it retails at $46 and has high ratings from medical personnel. What good luck! :)

Cheaper is better! I had a $5 watch from KMART for all of nursing school, 1 year of working as a nurse tech and then two years of working the floor before it finally broke. Then, I got all fancy and bought an $$$ "nurse" watch that, no joke, lasted 2 months. I need to go back to KMART. . .

Cheap white plastic kids watch from Target. I used to have a little fob one I hung from my ID badge but lost it somewhere when I switched jobs and badges

I wore/ still wear an Adidas digital watch. I got it at a fossil outlet store for 20 bucks( 10 with a friends discount!). You can set them so that they run on 24 hour time. If I were you I'd get any digital watch that allows you that function. It helped me a lot.
