I'm curious to see why other nurses may hate nursing or what they hate about it? AND GO!
Nurses that want to brag about how great are and have the eat their young mentality opposed to the experienced nurses that are supportive and share their wisdom
In my experience it is usually an overconfident new grad not an experienced nurse that brags and feels the need to show off, fortunately, they are in the minority! An experienced nurse has years of knowledge and no need to prove themselves to anyone. Rather choose to be a mentor to the new nurses and share their knowledge, while recognizing they don't know everything and are still learning new things.
Here's a Letterman top ten for you.
1. Budgets
2. AIDET
3. The fact I spend 60% of my time documenting, and only 40% actually doing patient care.
4. Plumbers making twice as much as me.
5. ********, backstabbing, and bickering.
6. Studer
7. Policies made by people who don't even know what EBP is.
8. Poor outcomes :-(
9. Being too poor to retire yet.
10. My aching back and feet when I get home.
Cheers
Right now, it's the middle man mentality that comes with new residents. "Can you call the lab and get them to do.... Can you call respiratory and get them to do.... Can you follow up with the XYZ consult..... "I have enough to do without having to do your job too, friends.
I agree with this too. Some days, I feel like if I'm not on my game to catch all of their errors, somebody is going to die.
I seriously have to make numerous phone calls a day asking did you really mean to order this because............ And then waiting 15 minutes for an answer.
I know these guys have to learn, but my gosh..... Iworry what happens when we have a new grad nurse with a med student.

OMG, what do you do if you know that they are wrong, but absolutely insist on you doing what they say?
Nursing salaries are not given bonus style, where have you been? They increase salaries when they can not find nor retain staff, when a union hospital negotiates a new contract with a raise the hospital across the street while try to keep up,..one Ceo began with a salary of 800,000/yr and many make way more than that. The price of a barrel of oil does not equate to the price from home use oil .Look at gas prices, but you can switch jobs to a higer paying location,..we are not starving here in east coast and I am sure Cali is doing ok.
What is there to hate?......EVERYTHING!
"Oh by the way that position your friend wanted?well although she really has qualifications, we (mgmt) are giving it to our little favorite butt k-----snitch,oh and would you mind teaching the newly hired PA how to put an IV in?Oh and the new admit from the ER that will be here at change of shift time?..well that is your admission, and dont ask for OT if you late getting out,our budget is on hold."

I hate that nurses no longer have the time to practice the art of nursing. Why? Because this is what was best for the patient and at the same time gave the nurse a sense of accomplishment. Now nurses have no choice but to go home knowing that tasks were not completed but even more important patients emotionl/spiritual needs were not met. Not a good feeling for either nurse or patient.
On a different note, I hate dealing with know it all families...but it said on the internet...
