We were lucky enough to get invited to a friend's house this year, so I am making my Jiffy Corn Casserole, a French chocolate silk pie, and a chocolate pecan pie. I always love hearing what everyone else is making, or if they are going out. We actually had reservations for a full spread at a local restaurant this year because we are travelling to the West Coast this weekend and I knew I would be too tired to come home from that and shop and cook a full spread. Our lovely friends are alone and the husband loves to cook for a crowd so he called us and invited us.

MHD- That sounds awesome! What great friends. Our family will be together on Saturday after Thanksgiving.- lots of us. We are very blessed. It's waaaay too early to know what I am cooking for that. But, on Thanksgiving Day, we will be at home with our kids and grandsweeties. My hubby bought a smoked turkey yesterday --I do know we will have that. Smoked turkey is sooooo yummy! A week from today, we get out at 11:30 (we decorate the building that morning, many of our kids don't have a lot of Christmas decorating done at home). It is very special to them. Each student and staff member has an ornament with their picture on it.

From a Thanksgiving past:
Okay, well...One day I was making a turkey- this was actually Christmas and not Thanksgiving, but it was still a turkey. I took the turkey outside the oven to "rest' and was heading upstairs to make some room for the upcoming meal...Suddenly, a shot rang out! My son Ralphie, who most certainly did not shoot himself in the eye with his new Red Ryder Daisy Air Rifle with a compass and this thing that tells time, ran inside crying that a giant icicle fell off the garage and hurt his eye! Those icicles have been known to KILL people!I took him upstairs to wash off his eye, while the Old Man read his funnies and eyeballed the turkey.(I saw a gleam in his eye and told him to leave the turkey alone, as it still had a half hour to cook, and he could get worms. Again.)Just as we were finishing cleaning Ralphie's wound with Lifebouy soap, a cacophony of barking and yelling and hillbilly music erupted from down below.. The Bumpuses' Dogs!!!I ran downstairs in time to hear the Old Man bleating "Sonsabiiiikches,,,Bumpuses!" after the last departing hound, who was running out the broken screen door with a drumstick in his mouth. The heavenly aroma still hung in the house. But it was gone, all gone! No turkey! No turkey sandwiches! No turkey salad! No turkey gravy! Turkey Hash! Turkey a la King! Or gallons of turkey soup! Gone, ALL GONE! OH FUDGE!We ended up going to out local Chinese Place for dinner and sang rousing chorus after chorus of Jingle Bells. We still talk about that turkey to this day...

Oh my - I can see our dogs doing that!!
This is my first year ever to host a Thanskgiving meal! My oldest son is going out of state for Thanksgiving to meet this new girlfriends parents, and we tried to get the extended family all together before they left, but it didn't work out. So I will be hosting for them, my mom, MIL, and the 5 of us the weekend before. I am making Turkey, dressing, cheesy hashbrowns, mashed potatoes, cheesy green beans, crockpot corn, buns. I put my 14 year old daughter in charge of an appetizer (she fancies herself a baker). Mom is bringing 5 bean cassarole and pies. Should be fun!!
shrimp cocktail and popcorn
turkey
sausage stuffing
mashed taters
sweet taters with stuff in it, marshmallows on top
canned cranberry sauce with the can lines
green bean mush with the onions
roasted brussel sprouts
tons of gravy
rolls
pecan pie
pumpkin pie
I make it all. I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner.

I am in charge of cranberries and starches. Sweet potatoes and garlic mashed potatoes, and I might steal Dakota's cheesy hashbrowns because that sounds SO good right now! My mom does the turkey/dressing/Sister Shubert rolls and the never-touched green vegetable. My sister does salad and dessert. My 17-year old is doing the Whole 30 diet (we tried it with her but I had to give it up because....wine....) We'll see how long she lasts. She loves rolls.
BWHAHHAHHA!!!! Oh, neighbors' dogs....

I make pies. Pumpkin and apple. I will probably also do an app of some kind.
We will be at my sister's house with a smaller crowd than usual. Her husband is going to Mexico for a family quincenera and my mom is going to her sister's house in Charlotte (my aunt just had a lumpectomy yesterday). We have family and a few friends join us.

We're hosting! Which is cool because now we don't have to pack up my entire house for the baby (because I'm notorious for over packing. It's what I do ) We'll have my family, my in laws, my sister's in laws, and a few of our framily peeps (you know, those friends that are family). However, none of us have really nailed down details though. Which I now realize we're totally pushing some time limits!! We will have the typical spread though: turkey, ham, stuffing, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (we're the peeps who put brown sugar and marshmallows on ours! ), cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, any other side that someone wants to bring, and desserts. OH MY THE DESSERTS!! That's my fave part!! Pies, cookies, cakes, haystacks (pretzels covered in chocolate, piled into "haystacks"), pumpkin bread....it just goes on and on!! I'm excited and can't wait! I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL break!!
