I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news. I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

QuoteAccording to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.
Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.
The arrested the guy the next day.
What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Trump is in a category all his own...he lies, he belittles and he's childish.
I don't disagree that Trump is in a category of his own, but his divisive, cruel, petty and lie based communication style was so successful for him that others have fully embraced it. The caliber of republican candidates has dropped notably since Trump's election in 2016, IMO. McConnell apparently agreed that the caliber of republican candidates was not impressive this year.
This happened today...
QuoteVoters in Brazil on Sunday ousted President Jair Bolsonaro after just one term and elected the leftist former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to replace him, election officials said, a rebuke to Mr. Bolsonaro’s far-right movement and his divisive four years in office.
The victory completes a stunning political revival for Mr. da Silva — from the presidency to prison and back — that had once seemed unthinkable.
It also ends Mr. Bolsonaro’s turbulent time as the region’s most powerful leader. For years, he attracted global attention for policies that accelerated the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and exacerbated the pandemic, which left nearly 700,000 dead in Brazil, while also becoming a major international figure of the far right for his brash attacks on the left, the media and Brazil’s democratic institutions.
More recently, his efforts to undermine Brazil’s election system drew particular concern at home and abroad, as well as worldwide attention to Sunday’s vote as an important test for one of the world’s largest democracies.
Without evidence, the president has criticized the nation’s electronic voting machines as rife with fraud and suggested he might not accept a loss, much like former President Donald J. Trump. Many of his supporters vowed to take to the streets at his command.
The results on Sunday made clear that tens of millions of Brazilians had grown tired of his polarizing style and the frequent turmoil of his administration. It was the first time an incumbent president failed to win re-election in the 34 years of Brazil’s modern democracy.
The country will remain deeply divided but maybe this will reduce the number of people suffering and fleeing the country.
Brazil has a very large economy and is listed on several lists I've seen as the 12th largest in the world. Before their recession in the mid-2000's I remember Obama making it easier for them to get travel Visas because their economy was booming and they loved to travel to the US for shopping and vacation. Florida benefited greater from this influx of cash because American goods like clothes were cheaper here. Many places in Miami and Orlando hired Portuguese speaking staff.
Bolsonaro advocated violence towards gay people (while being three times married claiming to be a devote Catholic), political violence, conspiracy theories and destruction of the rain forests. Good riddance.
He barely lost the election so probably will claim voter fraud and that he won the election. Apparently he thinks Trump won.
The far right certainly is making their presence known.
I'm not sure what it's tied to here in the US because Trump rose during a time of economic prosperity, so that's not it.

Hhhmmm
Coincidentally, the GOP became a very animated group when a black Democrat was elected president. The members of the GOP who tended toward racism and/or fantastical thinking and conspiracy theory became more vocal and agitated. The GOP formed the Tea Party to push against the totality of the Obama agenda...small government was the mantra. That populist movement that brought Sara Palin to the national stage is the precursor to Trump, in my opinion. Palin established that republican voters would cheer for made up nonsense and partisan hyperbole. Those voters moved on to embrace Trump and the MTGs and Herschel Walkers in conservative politics... all while they ignore obvious lies and disqualifying character flaws or lack of qualifications for the positions among a host of candidates.
Trump was elevated because right wing media had filled their consumers with grievance and animus during Obama’s presidency. That's how the right wing authoritarians manipulate populations of countries that they want to control... fear, animus, grievance...common enemies among disparate groups... it's well documented in history (some of it recent).
Trump wasn't elevated because the economy was bad, Obama had corrected that economic trend line... he was elevated because a black president wanted to provide affordable health care access to all Americans... that was much too much for the GOP. They don't want government big enough to see to the health and general welfare of the citizens, they want government small enough to fit into a uterus or medicine cabinet. Well... they want the part of government that isn't devoted to the military to be small.
Yeah...Trump was elevated because the conservative voting base was angry. They are still angry and now their anger would even topple democracy to try to make itself feel better... and that is quite okay with authoritarians among the GOP leadership. These are perilous times.

Well said. I didn't think of that. My best friend sometimes says when we talk about right wing stuff "how is this happening in a country that elected Obama"...when the truth might be it's because we elected Obama.

White panic. Sneer at the concept all you like, it still explains a lot. (Collective “you” - not directed at Tweety.)
Any guesses on how the Roberts Court will decide on this? I think they previewed the answer even before the newest conservatives were added.
Maybe The Epoch Times and Ben Shapiro haven't discussed this social phenomenon of white panic or concern about replacement of whites as the majority in any meaningful way. It is a popular concern among the white nationalists that vote republican.
One could easily relate the current conservative CRT hysteria to white panic, for example.

“Guess what? We have furries and fuzzies in classrooms,” Bolduc told the crowd. “They lick themselves, they’re cats. When they don’t like something, they hiss – people walk down the hallway and jump out,” he said, as a hissing sound could be heard.
“And get this, get this,” he continued. “They’re putting litter boxes, right? Litter boxes for that. … These are the same people that are concerned about spreading germs. Yet they let children lick themselves and then touch everything. And they’re starting to lick each other.”

That a retired US Army general with a distinguished career would espouse this craziness.
