What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Hakeem Jeffries is elected unanimously to be the next Democratic party leader in Congress, the first Black leader.

The decision by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) to step aside after leading Democrats for two decades has paved the way for the caucus to unite around a younger, more diverse trio of leaders. Democrats on Wednesday morning elected Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to serve as minority leader, Rep. Katherine M. Clark (D-Mass.) as minority whip and Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) as chair. Jeffries will make history as the first Black member to lead either party in either chamber of Congress.

Unlike Republicans, who have made Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) quest to be speaker more dramatic, Democrats unanimously elected the three members, who have long worked to forge relationships within the caucus ahead of this day.

This seems to me to be a remarkable show of party unity on the part of the Democrats.

Indiana Attorney General Asks Medical Board to Discipline Abortion Doctor https://nyti.ms/3AWHJvG

Quote

Indiana’s attorney general, Todd Rokita, asked a state medical board on Wednesday to discipline the doctor who provided an abortion to a 10-year-old rape victim this Summer.

Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist, treated the girl, who had traveled from Ohio when the state enacted a ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.

Quote

Mr. Rokita’s office said in a statement on Wednesday that he was asking the board to discipline Dr. Bernard because she had “failed to uphold legal and Hippocratic responsibilities by exploiting a 10-year-old little girl’s traumatic medical story to the press for her own interests.”

Quote

As part of Mr. Rokita’s investigation into Dr. Bernard, he has tried to subpoena medical records of Dr. Bernard’s patients.

Dr. Bernard and her employer, Indiana University Health, sued Mr. Rokita to block the subpoena of confidential medical records.

This conservative republican attorney general is abusing his authority.

Quote

Dr. Katie McHugh, an OB-GYN in Indiana, said Mr. Rokita’s investigation into Dr. Bernard was a “witch hunt” against physicians who provided abortion care.

“This doctor is being vilified for what has been internationally recognized as compassionate intervention,” said Dr. McHugh, who is a board member of Physicians for Reproductive Health, a group that favors abortion rights.

I wonder if residents of the state enjoy having their government's time and resources utilized in partisan ideological witch hunts.

I saw this opinion piece in the Bulwark: https://thetriad.thebulwark.com/p/projection-is-the-sincerest-form-ecf

The title to me, sums up trumpism :“projection is the sincerest form of trumpism”. Complaints about corruption, government control, election fraud are actually all actions taken by trumpists.

A federal appeals court on Thursday removed a major obstacle to the Justice Department’s investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s handling of sensitive government documents by ending an outside review of the records.

In a strongly worded ruling, the three-member panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit shut down an independent review of thousands of documents seized this Summer from Mr. Trump’s private club and residence in Florida. That move allowed the government to pursue its inquiry into whether Mr. Trump illegally kept national security records at his Mar-a-Lago home and obstructed the government’s repeated efforts to retrieve them.

I'm not certain that there's room for the SCOTUS to save judge Cannon from her flawed opinions.

In other words following the law.  Something Democrats see as an obstacle to their brand of fascism.

Are you talking about McCarthy? Isn't he expecting to be the next SOTH?

Please explain how either the doctor didn't follow the law or how harassing the doctor is following laws.

It doesn't represent your argument well when you seem to be under the misunderstanding that fascism is a brand of liberalism. Do you think that historical fascists were liberals?

Jeffries will not be Speaker, at least yet. A little civics lesson: the majority party, in this case, the GOP, chooses the Speaker.

Todd Rokita is an idiot in so many ways.  This is just one example in a set of 8 million:  Attorney General Todd Rokita said the United Nations alliance is trying to "destroy" American fossil fuel companies and the people that depend on them — like farmers and truck drivers.  IU should take his law degree back.  He is an embarrassment to the school.

Umm - what Indiana law did the doctor break?
