What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

McCarthy Condemns White Supremacist, Stopping Short of Faulting Trump https://nyti.ms/3gLEYGQ

Quote

Pressed about the dinner by reporters on Tuesday as he left a meeting at the White House, Mr. McCarthy criticized Mr. Fuentes and comments made by Mr. West, but stopped short of condemning Mr. Trump for meeting with them.

“I condemn his ideology; it has no place in society at all,” Mr. McCarthy said of Mr. Fuentes.

“The president can have meetings with who he wants; I don’t think anybody, though, should have a meeting with Nick Fuentes,” Mr. McCarthy said later. “And his views shouldn’t — are nowhere within the Republican Party or within this country itself.”

He then falsely claimed that Mr. Trump had condemned Mr. Fuentes “four times”; the former president has never done so. Mr. Trump has repeatedly said that he did not know who Mr. Fuentes was, but has not denounced his views or statements, which include unabashed racism and antisemitism.

Quote

In February, after Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Paul Gosar of Arizona appeared at Mr. Fuentes’s annual white supremacist gathering, Mr. McCarthy issued a rare public rebuke of the pair, calling their behavior “appalling and wrong.”

“The party should not be associated any time, any place with somebody who is antisemitic,” Mr. McCarthy said at the time, calling Ms. Greene’s failure to leave the stage after Mr. Fuentes praised Adolf Hitler “unacceptable.”

Neither Ms. Greene nor Mr. Gosar received any punishment, and Ms. Greene has boasted that Mr. McCarthy, whom she is supporting for speaker, will give her a powerful role in the new Congress. Mr. Gosar had previously attended the America First conference as its keynote speaker and wrote to the F.B.I. on his official letterhead claiming that Mr. Fuentes had been placed on a no-fly list and protesting the alleged action.

Asked on Tuesday at the White House about the lawmakers in his conference with ties to Mr. Fuentes, including Ms. Greene, Mr. McCarthy said, “She denounced him.”

Ms. Greene had never publicly done so until Tuesday, when a “PBS NewsHour” reporter pointed out on Twitter that she had never issued any condemnation of Mr. Fuentes. Days after she spoke at Mr. Fuentes’s conference, she told CBS News: “I do not know Nick Fuentes. I have never heard him speak. I have never seen a video. I do not know what his views are, so I am not aligned with anything that is controversial.”

Why is McCarthy lying about these associations? MTG is going to have some power in the Republican House thanks to McCarthy.

Why is McCarthy lying about these associations? MTG is going to have some power in the Republican House thanks to McCarthy.

Many liberals, often in an effort to self-validate their own biased opinions, like to keep score of who denounced or condemned who and when.  Yawn.

What is interesting about the NYT article is the way they reported this "story".  This paper, supposedly of the highest standard of journalism, instead of quoting what McCarthy actually said instead inserted their own subjective opinion that he "falsely claimed...".

The evidence here is that their readers easily buy into their propaganda and jump to the conclusion that "McCarthy is lying".

CNN supplied a equally opinionated headline, but at least included facts in their story.

"McCarthy said, “I don’t think anybody should be spending any time with Nick Fuentes. He has no place in this Republican Party. I think President Trump came out four times and condemned him, and didn’t know who he was.”

A reporter responded: “Well, he just said he didn’t know who he was. He didn’t condemn him or his ideology.”

McCarthy then said, “Well, I condemn his ideology. It has no place in society. At all.”

I think most reasonable people would conclude he was mistaken or unfamiliar with what Trump actually said rather then trying to falsely claim something.  But, then again, I'm not looking at the world through a MAGAphobe filter.

Nah...most reasonable people know that McCarthy is unable to be honest about Trump sharing a meal with someone like Fuentes because McCarthy is desperate to be SOTH  and he believes that he needs Trump and the Trump loyal republican representatives to achieve that power.  Most reasonable people can see that McCarthy isn't courageous enough to be an actual leader as he prepares to empower MTG after saying that such people have no place in the Republican Party. Most reasonable people are familiar with the republican politician practice of pretending that they have no idea what Trump says or stands for.  That's why Trump related politics are so unsuccessful for Republicans right now, because reasonable people have decided that that type of dishonesty has no place in American politics.

So let me change the question, why don't republican voters care that McCarthy prefers to lie about Trump's associations with antisemitic and white nationalist people? Are they looking at the world and information through some special filter?

Leave it to a magaphile to throw a non-sequitur at the wall in a desperate attempt to camouflage the fact that a significant subset of that culture WANTS TO KILL ME AND MY FAMILY. Go ahead and yawn, but I intend to monitor every quisling providing cover for nazis. It’s matter of self-preservation.

Trump is going “back to basics”. Very early on in the 2016 presidential campaign, he was called out for pandering to nazis, white supremacists, xenophobes and Christian theocrats. This IS his base. We yawned then, thinking he would sink his own campaign. Not repeating that mistake.

I have made a personal choice to stay unarmed, but I can’t tell you how glad I am that my son and his ex are gun nuts and my grandchildren are excellent shots.

I think the NYT needs to me more careful about language.  Why not just quote what McCarthy literally said and let the words stand on their own.  This was a news story, not an opinion piece.  This kind of sloppy reporting leaves them open for criticism.  Many Republicans don't care that McCarthy prefers to lie - that's just shows us who these people really are but don't let our side be the ones to "filter" the news.

Sure we can critique the reporting itself, but the important part is whether the GOP can slide sideways out of this bigoted mess that they created when they elevated Trump in 2016. The important part is how many Republicans will try to use clever wordings to avoid directly criticizing this divisive hatefulness that follows Trump. Will they pretend not to know which of their members campaign with white nationalists and other racists?

How many is a "significant subset "?  Really, you have no idea.  The propagandist liberal media has you scared.

You still live in ABQ?  I'm sure you're aware that city more than doubled its average number of murders last year?  And other violent crime has significantly increased.  How many of those crimes are by white supremacists?  How about where your son and grandchildren live?

I would hope reporters and editors at the NYT know how to construct a factual news story.

It's not a matter of them being sloppy or not being careful.  It's on purpose. And, they've been doing it for awhile.

Google “US pastors death penalty LGBTQ”.

And that’s not even addressing US Christian’s actively promoting such a death penalty overseas in places like Uganda.

Even the FBI statistics on hate crimes, as incomplete as they are, notes that -anti-LGBTQ hate crimes are #2 in frequency, right behind race.

Meanwhile, given the magaphile tendency to reply to criticism with threats, the not-so-subtle hint at doxxing is noted.

Two pastors.  While what they said is so vile and disgusting it's hard to find words for, they still represent a miniscule risk to anyone.

Hate crimes represent a tiny % of all crimes.  And, according to the FBI more than half of hate crimes are "intimidation".

Anyone, minority or not, has a far more likely chance of being  a victim of a random crime than of a hate crime.  That's who you or your kids should be ready to defend yourself against.  And, should probably rethink who you elect for local office.

Did MTG ever complain about blacks making her kids school look like a jungle?  Did MTG ever associate with a Senator that recruited for the KKK?
