I started my ADN at age 26, graduated at age 30 (3.5 years for prereqs and nursing program). I'll be 38 in March when I finish my BSN.

for the ones who answered 30+, did you have trouble applying for a job due to your age?

I will have my ADN completeed by 40. I don't think I will have a problem getting a job at 40. I would though be worried if I was over 50. That's not to say a new grad over 50 won't get a job, I just think it would be a little harder. Retirement age is 65 and many working to 70 these days so I don't see 40 as an issue. Besides isn't 40 the new 20?

I have never had a problem finding a job. In 2001, when I graduated at the age of 43, I received an offer from every interview. After 2009, after the economy tanked, it took little longer to get a job, but still no real problem. I have spent the past two years teaching LPNs and getting an MSN in Education. There is probably less age discrimination in nursing than in other professions. Good health and physical ability to do the job are important. I have worked in Home Care, long term care, management, and education. I did receive offers as a new grad at hospitals, but wanted home care.

As I said in another post, 40 has been the new 20 well over a decade.

I had a LPN career before my RN career (at 24), then by the time I graduated at 30, tuned 31, got licensed, and have always had a nursing job; some want more experience in years, and once I get those golden years they want, I will continue to get more offers or those employers will offer me more positions; they ARE interested though...
